Not very long back, domain experts, trying their luck at B-schools as part-time lecturers, were derided as ‘taxi faculty’, hopping from one institute to the other purely for money.

Today, with management institutes mushrooming and the race to provide quality contemporary education hotting up, visiting faculty are enjoying their moment in the sun. But the question is, are they really giving quality education or just doing it for the sake of money.

Is this a right move, should B-schools rely on visiting faculty?

I think it is a good move. Visiting faculties are people retired from top industry or person having good teaching experience. They really provide good education compared to the permanent faculties. They relate their experience with the syllabus and give many live example which make the sessions more interesting. And many B-schools starting adopting this method.

VISITING FACULTY HAS ENORMOUS EXPERIENCE AND NEED NOT CONFINE THEMSELVES TO A LIMITED NUMBER OF BENEFICIARIES.LET MANY SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCE AND ENRICH THEMSELVES.

I have experience in Studying In B-School. Its really true that the student has to depend on the guest faculty..because the teacher over there doesn't have any- or no Exp. of any corporate. they can teach well from book. but BOOKISH knowledge is not really helpful in the practical world.

I say yes Because Busines is not confined to perticular region or country ITS TRUELY A GLOBAL EVERY B-School should invite local & International Faculty. students learn not only business but also culture, way of living standerds, teaching methods,. Its more or less CROSS BREEDING.

The concept of visiting faculty brings the joining of industrial experience and academic teaching together. In fact I would rate one subject by a visiting faculty from the relevant industry as providing double the benefit.

Definitely visitng faculty concept should be made a compulsory requirement for B-Schools in the prefinal and final year. Even for IITs and engineering colleges 50% of the classes in the final year should be by Visiting faculty This would provide the students with a GOOD EXPOSURE IN TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD.

It is possible that only money drives some of the visiting faculty. But that may not hold true for a majority of them...

But think of the rich experience that visiting faculty provides - varied case studies application based on real-life examples. The experience of fixed faculty may not match this - particularly as their work environment demands and opportunities may factor against it.

Weeding out of visiting faculty who don't meet expectations is also a practice that I'm sure most institutes follow. So who gains? For sure it's both the students and the visiting faculty.

Without such participation these schools would not get the benefit of sharing thoughts with business leader and faculties of reputed institutions worldwide. Age should not be any bar for such faculty so long they can deliver.

I think colg shud invite visiting faculty BUT NOT rely on them totally. Instead colg profesor shud b aware of current business scenario and daily relate evrythin to the students practically. "Daily" teachin tips and tricks of practical cases by colg profesrs makes student quite open to new horizons and practical thinkin instead of weekly visiting faculty.  Thus betr trainin shud be given to all faculty of all B-schools for betr output and gain innovative ideas and application in real wrld.
