Recently, with the the introduction of Genetically Modified foods into the market, we have seen both positive and negative responses from the scientists, environmentalists and general public. In this race, a new chapter recently got added that the environment Minister of India Mr. Jairam Ramesh has allowed Bt Brinjals in India which is getting lot of critisim from lot of scientists and environmentalists in India and abroad.

Leading scientist Pushp Bhargava, who was also the Supreme Court nominee to the country's biotech regulator, Monday warned that if Bt Brinjal is allowed it would be the "single largest disaster" and also warned the government that it will be protested hugely from the public and he himself will take legal actions against this decision.

So users, what do you think? Should Bt brinjals be allowed in India?

Technology is always essential for food revolution. This was observed during 1st green revolution also. It is the best way to get the qualitative products. Also, so far there is no proof of any severe problems from Bt brinjals. We can always give it a try. The population is increasing rapidly and in order to control the inflation India has to allow cultivation of genetically modified crops. The science & technology is growing up. So we have to realise the positive sides of the genetically modified crops. Otherwise we can't sustain in the fast world. Mostly people say, they won't use GM foods. But here is a straight question for all of them. Our father of green revolution Swaminathan also did it by using gamma radiation on wheat variety which we call Sabarmati Sonara. We have been using it for last 20 to 25 years. We are using BT cotton. Then what's the problem in using other GM foods? Its very easy to blame a product but tough to praise its good side and the truth is we are badly in the need of food to fulfil our food requirements in India. We are running short of crops to feel 150 crore population. There is no other way out in scientifically producing food and since these foods are hybrids, they will contain more nutrition than the naturally grown foods. On the top of that, we can earn a lot of money through this and we need money right at this moment to sustain our economy since 50% Indian farmers are poor.

Bt of any food item should not be allowed to enter india.

We are agriculturists 70 % . so we are farmers first then any other professionals. also food is the basic necessity for living and to live healthy we need to bow to nature and live the nature's way.

With Bt ,we think we are deastroying pests but slowly and ultimately we are destroying ourselves (termination to be precise)

Be organic and lead the ayurvedic way of life . India can survive any health problem even though we may not have more than sufficient to eat, but we shall have just sufficient to survive when others perish

When Mr. Pushp Bhargava has already said this will be a disaster for the entire country. I cannot understand on what basis our government is allowing this material. The entire world is opposing this food and why should we only experiment this on our people? This products should be banned in our country as the medical science itself says, Genetically foods causes long term and deadly diseases in human beings. We shouldn't see everything merely from the monetary point of veiw. Human life is more important. Tomorrow we ourselves may be the victim of this product.
