When I go through such debates I find many minds not open to change, they want the same process to continue which was present during their times I feel the exams shoud be abolished and rather they should be replaced by partical projects so the child has a glimpse of the actual world here they can use their therotical knowledge too, this will have a advantage the syllabus will be altered as per present condition in market and not kept the same for 20-30 years like we have in presnet system We ape the west why cannot we be more pratical like them as it will give a better future to our own children

This is really a gud step taken by the indian govt. I always stand in einstein's view of studies. He said " why to study all these things when we can look for them in books..". And dat's entirely true.. when in your research laboratory yo don't memorise all the details... you verify ur result with books.. so rather testing the students knowledge by exams, there can be practical assessments where you can know the student's capability more clearly..its after all the practical way which is gonna help you and not the theory...

It is a good positive step!! Most schools (CBSE) are now entering the phase where they have junior college within its own board and so the call for abolishing the 10th standard wxams is gaining momentum! I also feel that there is undue stress on students to perform and perdorm well. In fact the suicidal deaths after the results of the dreaded board exams has increased by at least 14 to 15%, which is not a good sign!! Also, the chaotic scramble for college admissions is simply put extre, ely stressful. The pressure could dribe any sane person towards insanity. What good are such exams that make a student end its life prematuredly?? Is there any justification for that?? Also, the schools conduct PRELIMS in their own premises which is a prepatory exams for the students for the board, why not maje that a benchmark for students to get admissions in their own respective schools for junior college. We still have to cross the fact that after 10th the professional courses open their doors to stuf\dents for their choice of career!! I think its a good move!! Thanks for the referral Himanshu!

Uptil now the calibre of a student used to get judged thru his performance in one final examination. All his work in other tests & curriculum are not counted. this has encouraged MUGGING as the enitre years course material needs to be produced in one instant during final exams. Also the numerical rating system creates too much pressure & stress on the parents & kids. By instating a new policy , the kid now will be judged regularly throughout the year. The periodic curriculum, assignments & tests will be taken seriously by the student. He will now need to work with discipline & planning throught out the year ( & not just in last couple of months... as is the case now).

Exams are the litmus tests to be conducted to assess the knowledge of the students. A certain percentage of tension (positive tension) is required for driving us in right direction. If at all the system to be changed, the pattern of examination has to be changed instead of totally lifting it out.

No,it should not be abolished at all because what i feel it turns out to be the first milestone where students start thinking of their career & studies seriously and it's the role of parents to help provide awareness to their children, which will eradicate the chances of exam fever and nervous breakdown. Because the earlier you start the better it is..!!!

what is the use of not writing an exam after studying in a class for one year. how shall we actually access the students as to whether he has actually acquired all the knowledge which he has been taught. Actually exams are a measure to analyse a students capacity . if it is not measured then how will we understand a students capability.

its not possible to completely abolish CBSE X board exam.what is the need of abolishing it and making it a grading system.grading system is not for encouraging students but it may discourage them.many students who study well will thought that the students with average mark will be treated like the other students.their feelings must be taken into consideration.

Completely abolishing is not good . Because i think at the age 14-15 years a student has enough capacity and resistance to tackle the exams. If its abolished at 10 th itself what about the later stage where one has to face much tougher ones engg/medicene/law/commerce/management,. etc. A change of pattern instead of those lengthy 3 hrs essay type Q&A to something like short and quicker ones similar to the Q paper format during campus intervies conducted at graduation level would have been good.

i really can't understand what Mr. kapil is thinking. Class X is very important in one individuals career. Also this will create a good amount of responsibility that a person has to undergo in his life. this will actally give a upper hand to persons life in terms of physcological effect as well. I dont understand the point in cancelling as it will create much chaos. Ministry is thinking that if we cancel more of backward can come in to picture, but thats not the case, worse will become much worser. Perhaps, this may be the instruction from vatican in order to make India an illetrate community.

This is ridiculous. Xth and XIIth both the results are extremely necessary in a student's academic career. If either of these two are abolished, what will happen to the future of the student ? Universities always asks for minimum these two results...

Class X is a milestone. The student normally starts selecting his optional subjects like science/commerce/arts etc. after this stage. He should have an idea of his own potential before chosing his future. Also that the seniors like his parents, teachers etc. will also come to know about his/her tastes by knowing how he fared in the exams. Class X marks card is also considered as 'AGE' certificate. His authontic date of birth will be available in class X marks card. Marks may or may not encourage/discourage the student, gradation would be prudent alternative for this. But abolishing exams may be a poor decision. Also, it should not be optional, it should be compulsory. The idea of abolishing class X exams looks to be misleading - foe the class X students of 2010-11 CBSE. If Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to do so, it may lose its popularity and standard.

I don't think this abolishing of class X exams is the way to go, it is good that Mr. kapil sibal is coming up with a non political agenda in terms of education, but then why not CET where students take tests for Engineering and medical courses and GATE where students are suffering like anything. according to me Exams are something like to test the ability of mental strenght of a student and we are taking that away from them. And that is not a good move according to me.
