Now, law schools open to third sex.

Acknowledging their difference, premier national law schools will include an 'Others' category for transgenders in application forms from the next academic year.

National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bangalore vice-chancellor Prof R Venkata Rao told TOI this was an important move in the area of human rights. "During interaction with transgenders, they pointed out that in application forms, it was always Male or Female in the gender category but there's no mention of Transgenders or Others. This got us thinking."

He also said if transgenders apply, they will be selected based on merit.

What do you think is this a good move, will students agree for this ???

Yes this is a good decision, they are also human beings we should never separate them. They have equal rights like any other students. Initially students will face some problems but giving them counseling will solve the difference. This should be done in every colleges and universities.

Chris, firstly your argument on brain sizes is not fully or scientifically correct. Secondly its quite normal for Rich to help Poor proposition. If you see a beggar on the street, you give them alms.  A visually normal person to help a visually impaired/challenged person. In light of this what I say is, presently this category of people need hand holding.  These are the among the truly deserving minority human beings who need mandatory reservations and stringent protection against discrimination, so that we as a nation can develop towards a more value based society.

If you put yourself in the other shoes and you were undergoing this discrimination of a total deprivement of all rights to be considered a human being, how would it be??  Or consider you had to parent a born different child, Do you still stand by your argument?

Eunuchs (Transgenders) are born with both sex organs, the child either has female sex organs, male sex organs and penis or will be men will develop breasts after puberty or women do not get menstrual periods and develop deep baritone voice, facial hair and male physical characteristics. Society has long been discriminating against eunuchs by • Asking them to leave the family as in traditional social set ups, if one sibling turns out to be a eunuch the family finds it impossible to get the other siblings married. • Mocking them at schools and making academics painful. • All people fill up forms – even the government forms have two sections to fill up only viz., male or female, like a sense of there is no other form of human life. • All institutions and organizations have this profiling, whether the internet or paper form, the ask for the gender, the options are only two. • Government who should be providing, deprives them of jobs • Private organizations do the same. • Religious organisations are worse, when it comes to treatment of these people. …. Only fault of theirs – BORN DIFFERENT….but they are very much HUMAN BEINGS…. End Result is that to live they are left with only options of begging, prostitution or other antisocial activities http://rijoscletus.wordpress.com/right-to-live-2/

Yes for sure they have a right to be treated respect fully. Moreover being the citizens of the country no one can take this right awy as they have a right to freedom and equality as per the fundamental rights in indian constitution so dont keep any doubts regarding depriving them of their rights in an independent country

Good debate Ravali. They should not only be given admissions to education but also to be treated equally each and every level of our society so that public's bad impression on them can be dispelled.

It requires a trmendous amount of courage to face society when they are born as transgender. Despite this if they are prepared to face on all remarks against their state of existence, when their other class mates distinguish them, it shud be much appreciated that they are prepared to bear on or put up with bickerings in their pursuit to study.

Yes, times have changed. Now many people understand that they were made like that by nature and it is not their fault. Hence, they would be accepted by many students in school and college. They too are humans.

The TN Government has included them in the voter rolls and are also giving them encouragement. One such thing is that they get free operation to make them as functional females (of course they cannot reproduce).

By giving them education and encouraging them to take up jobs, we can keep them off the street. Most of them earn their living by resorting to begging and flesh trade, because they do not know anything else. Nor are they employable because of their lack of education.

This is a highly appreciable step and i guess a beginning of new thinking. According to me all kinds of reservations on the basis of casts, religion, region, gender should be discarded. Why this kind of discrimination ? Everyone should have equal and fair chance. Obviously before being a woman or a muslim or a Schedule  cast we are humans. And today India is ready to understand this and shun all the partitions created for political reasons.

Transsexual students who decide to transition from one gender to another typically seek to change their gender and often their names on official records and documents. Students whoself-identify as genderqueer may also change their given names to match their gender identity. The process for making these changes varies from state to state and institution to institution. At some colleges and universities,

the process is difficult or no means exist to make such changes.

People's sexual orientation is their personal business. As long as they have a legal identity, why should they be denied their right of access to education if they have merit?.

If transgenders are there in numbers they should be made to select a gender what they were or what they became and make that their legal choice.

first of all if there shud be equality and hence no gender or caste discrimination shud be applicable in any field..it shud b plainly on merit...coz everyone male female or transgendeer hav equal brains. and if we talk abt merit and equality then the source of it shud be implemented everywhr.. each sector shud be given only to meritorious students. and only spl preference shud be given to EBC to boost them ahead others i dont think there is a point.
