Hindus in Pakistan are scared after the recent atrocities against minorities perpetrated by religious fanatics. Many are now making a beeline for the Indian High Commission for visas to flee from Pakistan. However, most have to return disappointed as the Indian mission in Islamabad is very strict in issuing visas. Fear has spread among the few Hindus and Sikhs in that country over the beheading of the Sikhs by the Taliban for refusing to convert to Islam. The state machinery has failed to protect religious minorities in Pakistan.

The people who has fled to India never to return back, have said the Taliban had launched a campaign to convert the Hindus into Islam. The Hindus who resist were subject to torture and even killing. Their women are getting kidnapped. That is the reason the visa application for India has increased manifold in recent times. But the Indian Embassy is not issuing visas in adequate numbers. The Indian home ministry had reportedly issued visa restrictions to discourage the Hindus in Pakistan coming to India as the chances of them returning to their own country is remote considering the tense conditions there.

So users, do you think the government should grant visas to Pakistani Hindus?

Yes. In accordance with India's humanitarian image, visas should be handed out after due security checks confirm that no Pakistani terrorist is entering India with false identity. This act will improve India's stature and can be used as a diplomatic offense against Pakistan.

Taking all your arguements on their face value, do they all forbid us to accept our brothers who are reminding us of our brotherhood since situations are falling on their heads now?

Sure Mr Shastri,

For this aspect even those living in India and involved in harming the national interest should as well be segregated. Just being born in the country should not give a right to plunder its core values and resources.

Dear Ravindra my view was to not exactly deny pakistani hindu's of acquiring indian visa, but a cautionary message 'proper care' should be taken before allowing entry to India.

In the recent past, we have granted asylum to Tibetans, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans, Much, much before that we have a track of granting permanent shelter to Pharsis, Jews, et al.

And now why not visas for Hindus, albeit from Pakistan?

Irshad, your comment look like a true ESCAPIST viewpoint. Is this what we call brotherhood and human ground? Is should not be their concern if you do not have enough FOOD or have enough HUNGRY beings? All they are asking is a claim to enter their homelamnd which they could not enter so many years back, reasons untold.

Lets be HUMAN, INDIAN and GRANT OUR BORTHERS A PLACE TO WORK & EARN THEIR BREAD.

Why Not.

Caste or Appeasement, alone should not be the lone judgement factors to take decision for Humanitarian grounds.

Ajay, calling all Indians in Pakistan as OPPORTUNISTS and thought they stayed back on thier own will during partition - Don't you think you've assumed and said a bit too much??? If a man is made to stay in jungle for 53 long years, don't you think he shall have JUNGLE psyche by then and would've become a fighter better than the man himself.

Do all checks, if required, have conditions imposed but accept the Hindus back from Pakistan and thatz what our government should be doing.

Tough issue.  But there is really only one "right" answer.  To allow the situation to fester runs the risk of creating a large number of Hindu-Pakistani martyrs...individuals harrassed, abused or killed out of xenophobia and religious intolerance...which, in turn, could prompt the martyrdom of Islamic-Indian citizens in an irrational tit-for-tat.  And of course, this risks further confrontation between the two nuclear states.

If the Indian government does not have the political will to provide asylum for these Hindu-Pakistanis, then it should definitely pressure the Pakistani government, both directly and through the assistance of the international community, to protect this minority group.

hi Himanshu, when Indian Govt.can welcome Srilankan Tamils why can't pakistani Hindu's? after all we Indians are renouned for good hospitatility and becoming good hosts even to our enemies!! but, one has to be careful of socio-economic problems that may arise due to this and also aftermath effects of Indo-Pak relations. If we / entire world just consider them as just Human's first and then about their nationality, there won't be any problems.Of course we can't forget Thakeray's reaction level!!!!

Mr. Ajay Ziz, keep yourself in their place and then talk these lines. If someone forces you in this way and you have nothing else to do, let me see how much time you'll spend to strenghten yourself or flee from that place for the good future of your family

We shall not deney shelter to Indian hindus from anywhere in the world, especially when they are forced to convert to other relegions and they are not really interested in getting converted. They shall be provided all kind of support as their mother land.

The government should not only grant them visas, but citizenship as well if it wants to see the Pakistani Hindus to be alive. Its so unfortunate that our countries can give citizenship to Bangladeshi infiltrators just for vote bank, but they never think the Pakistani & Bangladeshi Hindus can also be a vote bank for them. So, instead of giving citizenship to Bangladeshis, if they grant citizenship to Pakistani and Bangladeshi minorities, not only can they get huge vote bank, but they will be saving so many lives and at least terrorism will reduce in our country.

We are already running short of food in our own country. We don't have enough food to feed every Indian. How can we increase more and more refugees? We can't keep our people hungry to feed foreigners. It was their decision to stay in Pakistan in 1947 for which they are facing consequences now. Let us not increase burden on us.

There is a difference between dictatorship and democracy. Whatever it might be , the system is bad but no we are not under a rule and no one is ordering us. They are corrupt but they are not dictators...
These are two different issues. There is no point in mixing them up. They might not be willing to remove corruption but the case of temple treasure has nothing to with it.
Yes there is no magic wand but does that mean we should stop working? We need to do something and even small steps will help in long run. It might take long but our aim should be to end it. Thank you Sir for a nice post.
