Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy recently said that India should perceive China's rapid development in the information technology sector as an “opportunity” for Indian IT companies functioning in that country, rather than as a "threat."

China has shown development in extraordinary proportions in different sectors. It will also make progress in the IT sector. Almost all Indian IT companies have a presence in China now. But we are not looking at China as a threat but as an opportunity. But, should we stop worrying China as a threat??

How can you stop worrying about a so called enemy country. They are definitely better than us in several aspects and therefore,You should always be ready to face them.

I red somewhere, that instead of worrying about your enemy, do worry about you. Think what you are now, what you want to be in next 10 years. Others will start follow you.

yes we should stop worrying about chinese threat. today we are living in such times that both countries are not foes but complement each other and this world is large enough for both to co-exist. we should develop strategic relations with china in different fields to take western threats.developed countries are facing heat from chinese expansion and want to use India as front line backup against China.

Mr. Sarabjeet  Singh

I quoted 30 Aug'10 meeting decision. N.R.Narayan pursue this.

"Anand Sharma said that Indian companies will be given greater access to government contracts and the IT and pharmaceutical sectors in China.

“We have asked for more access. China has a huge program on procurement of pharmaceuticals and the Indian companies should get access to government contracts and IT sectors. It has enough space for the same. I have been assured this will happen,” Sharma told the Press Trust of India.

Trade between China and India is expected to reach US$60 billion this year, up from US$43 billion in 2009 and US$51 billion in 2008, but the trading surplus is consistently one-sided. Bilateral trade for the first six months of this year surpassed US$30 billion, with Indian exports to China of US$11.9 billion far weaker than Chinese exports to India of US$18.4 billion."

Mr. Sarabjeet Singh,

Here. N.R.Narayan is exploring possibilities of IT business in China. He is not talking about China's Might. Of course, the military threat will be analyzed by strategic experts. Their perception is, I feel, better than Our's. So let us think about India's business prospect with China as a Country.

Even during the passing out ceremony at Officers Training Institute,Chennai. India's General. V.K.Singh said to the press that, the present happenings in China is a casual occurrence & not to be taken seriously.Hope I clarified my point.

yes We should stop worrying china as a threat, its the media which has made china look like this, yes we have some border tensions with them and with so much progress china is seeing lately in all the sectors, so hail their system which is achieving this, whereas India are a no match to them, so why are we even worrying in the first place, they can easily come and take over us within few days with their military power if they want to, they are having only one agenda to be the greatest economy in the world and sustain it for a long time and they are working towards it. whereas we are still getting our act straight and are doing nothing about it, and we are no competition to them in any means, So than worrying about something we need to see that there is an opportunity in chinese growth for India.

I support your views, Suresh.

China is the only threat for India in almost every sector.

We must have a look at it's activity such as infrastructure work to Himalaya

through Pakistan etc.......

i agree with you that there is a lot of potential but China will not give access , we are trying. If they do this will be direct compitition to their domestic industries. It is against their state policy to do so.

Another worry is the matter of protecting intellectual property rights and patents where Chinese companies blantly copy your product and sell it to under developed or developing nations. This has concerned US, Russia and european union also and China is taking no action against its home grown industries on this matter.

I completely agree with Mr. murthy's view but you also do have to look at the states/countries law against you , firstly before entering we protection and laws favouring us.

What Narayan Murthy mentioned was from a different perspective...why are we there anyway in China...to get to know a lil' bit more about them so they dont encroach into our competitive space...you can attack an enemy only when you are sure about him...and how do you do that?...make him realise how important you are to him....so you begin understanding their strategies, plans etc...in a way we do perceive them as a threat and therefore, we are in their land to explore business opportunities killing 2 birds in one shot - expanding our business space and thwarting their competitive strategies...

Moreover, in other spheres too, china has been for long perceived a threat...militarily and politically...with their presence in our territory and their support to Pak in supplying nuclear materials...is that not a bigger threat than anything else you can think of???It is our duty to be vigilant and snub any attempt by the chinese to test our national integrity.

@ KALIYAMOORTHY

Yes i agree with you that we are looking for doing business in China but is China open to us ? they do mass dumping but on other hand levy heavy tax on firm trying to enter their market. It would be a blunder to enter into chinese market because china doesn't respect copyright law and patents , Indian company Bajaj has learn't that a hard way without even entering China. Pulsar has been blantly copied by chinese and sold to south american company named Gulsar. We need to be very carefull other wise the art we master (IT) will be learn't by them.

@ about what V.K singh said , lets leave it there , this is not a startegic forum but he is trying to calm down matters. I can say that certainly because my close connections with armed forces.

China has always been a bigger threat than our other neighbors owing to its adversarial attitude be it our economy or military. We should not stop considering it a threat. Murthy might look at China as an opportunity in the limited sense of the IT industry. But in geopolitical terms, China is indeed a big threat of which we must always be conscious of.

This is a big topic.we must analyze the geopolitics. we must understand china's strategic military support to Pakistan. Though there are diplomatic level talks in all these governments. we must understand china is violating all the treaties of territories belonging to India. We may say US is in good terms with India as a major supporter of Indian interests but We know the history. China on the other hand are building capabilities that can beat US in all aspects, means that they dont care for US anymore. So we cannot ignore China at all....

China is a threat to India from the very beginning and now China is playing a Chess game to knock-out India in near future.India is under siege from all four direction by China. China is making various Airports/seaports in Srilanka, Myanmar, Pakistan, Bangladesh for its military purpose that will going to help china in case of war. there are many things behind the scenes that India should know but...

With respect to Mr. Murti sir , the threat isn't economical but a Militry threat. India is the biggest threat to china simply because they want to prove how effective their system of governance is and India has just ruined their hardwork.

Strategically, we can say China is a threat. But then, the risk level -I mean potential threat  to India's sovereignity is to be analyzed  by Strategic analysts. But, absolutely no threat, in exploring the possibilities of Business venture with China.I think after 2002, China's is leading an Industrial revolutionary path. Mr. Wu is doing well. Eventhough, the tough hand of Communism is there, still china is relieved from those of earlier Iron Curtain days. However, as an Asiatic country India can develop good relations with China as for as Business is concerned. The giants(India & China) who are aspiring to top-up in the world can mutually compliment each other in the business perspective. We need not look at China withe same vein as we were in 1962. Things have improved a lot with India & China. Now it is the time to reciprocate the good to each other for the betterment.

Well, let's see...first, China and India have common borders, are the 2 most heavily populated nations on earth, are 2 of the fastest growing economies on earth, both have rapidly increasing demands for natural resources and other raw materials, both have relatively small middle-class populations and large under-classes clamouring for modern lifestyles, both have access to state-of-the-art technology, both have nuclear weapons...and lastly, one is the single-largest democracy on earth and the other, the longest survivng communist regime.  What else?  Both are ancient cultures with a legacy of pride.

So, if you think India should not remain concerned about the potential threat its neighbor to the north represents, then you are clearly blind to historical realties.  This does not mean that India should become overtly aggressive, much less hostile in this relationship.  No, but it must remain vigilant and prepared to avert conflicts in advance through diplomacy, compromise and hard-nosed negotiations.  Open hostility between the 2 giants would be catastrophic for the entire world.
