With womens reservation bill a new row has started among the Muslim community where the senior Maulana's of the country are saying that politics makes an unlikely profession for well brought up 'khawateen'.

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41388000/jpg/_41388465_burkha_250bap.jpg

"Islam doesn't permit women to discard the purdah, deliver lectures in public (taqreer) and demand their due. They have clear guidelines to follow — stay at home in hijab, and take care of household chores. They are also free to get educated and serve the nation," but then they quickly ruled out to say their prohibition towards politics.

What do you think people, should Muslim women discard "Purdah" to take part in Politics?  share your views on this...

Yes definitely. Why women on this earth lag behind in any type of human race.

Any women on this earth have rights to participate in all the activities, be it is politics. All humans are equal whether it tis women or men.I do strongly accept this point.

A bit subjective is this debate Kavitha and slightly confusing is the question. Confusion : did you mean that “Purdah” should be discarded by muslim women for taking part in politics only? Subjective: As for as my knowledge goes, there are 5  compulsions in Muslim religion – Belief, Namaaz, Roza, Donation and Haj. Rest are the norms that are followed more out of pressure and obligation, less out of choice. As claimed by muslims, the religion never forces the followers to compulsorily do anything, but to follow the five principles. “Purdah” as is believed, is a “naqaab” to be worn by all muslim women (even after death) after the first periods, not before.

With liberisation on and also the time we are in, there is already an air of resentment amongst muslim women about the compulsion of wearing “Purdaah” but I think introduction of reservation bill, the yadav TROIKA’s plea and maulana’s dictat is nothing but their attempt to drive mileage and gain attention. Had I been a muslim woman, I would rather be happy to keep the “Purdaah” and be an active politician as well. “Purdaah” certainly doesn’t hold them from being an active part of the community, liberalise themselves and create a movement for upliftment of other muslim women.

Women in Pakistan do not wear Burkah.Women in Muscat and for that matter all the GCC countries are very well educated,They do wear Hijab but the faces are not covered. In all the GCC countries, there is a constant and Conscentious effort from Government to encourage women participation and women empowerment in professional and social and Governance field. This may come as a surprise to most of you but Saudi women have fought to be representing women in their governments too.In Oman there are many women working in Banks and private sector and many of them are in Government too!!!

Where is the question of women wearing prudah? burkah or for that matter Hijab? If that is the part of their National, religious dressing then why should somebody have any objection?Bahrainian women are known to be the most educated amongst all GCC countries.they wear a different type of Hijab called as The "FARASH"  meaning a butterfly in arabic. It  looks nice too...

Cheers to women bill!!!!

I think they should. We are living in 21st century and are talking a lot about woman rights and woman freedom. Woman should get all kinds of freedom to chose any career she wants. We have discarded "Purdah" system long back which was a big barrier in the liberty of women so we are so much developed today. The Muslim society is still lagging behind because there is no freedom to women because of this "Purdah". So I think Muslim women should come forward, discard "purdah", join politics and do something for the upliftment of other Muslim women so that the whole Muslim society progresses.

Media people .... U r not confusing a 'great delicate' subject ?

One part is 'Purdah' and the other is 'joining politics' for the Muslim women.

For the issue of 'borka' or what ever name, this varies from country to country. Muslim women alone is to decide what is best suited for them. But ... joining politics ? Yes and yes. They may equally join politics to share real 'power'.

Well if one has too look purely as a dress code prospective probably should feel that the purdah should not be discarded as there is no compulsion in the parliament for any dress code to begin with. Talking on religious grounds & views its better for the Muslim clerics and top leaders to sort out their laws as this is more of a religious based debate as such, we could only share and speak out about the plight & the ignominy of the Muslim women and nothing else...

I cannot participate on removal of pardha or not. But certainly I can debate that muslim women should come out and they should participate in all the activities including politics. They should enlight the world about the their problems then only their problems will be resolved. I hope lots of mulsim countries are also now-a-days allowing women to participate in politics why not in our country. When 'Benezir Butto' becomes prime minister to Pakistan, why not indian muslim women become at least counselor, ward member, MLA, MP, etc.

purdah is not a barrier at all.....I have seen woman winning long races in hijab....and I fail to realize that why are people against modesty.....men get attracted towards a women that the scientific fact...and by uncovering their body they are only inviting men ...thats the reason number of rape cases have increased in india alarmingly ..further more Goa Government is itself planning to ban the tourists to move topless around beaches in India because of so many rapes taking place there.......for me women is like a diamond ---most precious ----

In Islam, a woman should always cover her face. Thats modesty Kavitha, not bindness. They should not rule rather do household activities. This is taught by The Holy Quran. We are not against working women. But not favouring them ruling society which is anti-Islamic. Kindly don't put any comments which is against our religious principles.
