In today's news, I came across this report that the Joint House Committee (JHC) enquiring the construction of the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) summoned Infosys Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy, MP Rajeev Chandrashekar, bureaucrats V P Baligar, K Jairaj and other officials for "faulty" design and construction. It has also advised to blacklist infrastructure majors L&T, Siemens and Unique Zurich Airport for at least five years for "poor quality of workmanship" at BIA.

They said that Murthy and Chandrashekar have been indicted on two counts. Firstly, both were among the first directors when Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) was incorporated on January 5, 2001. Secondly, they participated in the first board meeting of BIAL, on March 21, 2001, which appointed IAS officer K Jairaj as Managing Director. Describing the terminal building as an 'industrial shed', the committee has expressed serious concern over the absence of a structure depicting the culture and glory of Karnataka. The committee has asked both governments to consider reopening the old facility for healthy competition.

So friends, should Narayan Murthy be made accountable for BIAL faulty design?

It is too premature to say whether Mr Murthy is accountable for any of the lapses. But, he can be definitely summoned and questioned. If he is genuine, he will come out clean, if he is guilty by any chance, he has to take responsibility. Just bcoz he is reputed and he is considered to be a very principled leader by everyone, he cannot be declared innocent. It is every Indian's wish that Mr Murthy is not at all invoved in this, directly and indirectly.

i would agree with mr.sharath that its might to be too early to jump onto a conclusion,if some reputed person are involved in governance of certain projects and public interest has been compromised then be it industralist ,politician or celeb should subjected to legal actions .perhaps, just one blunder is required to ruin/soil the reputation build in 10 yrs .

Indeed Mr.Murthy would be responsible. Who knows how much he siphoned off to Infosys that it posted profits even during global meltdown. Interrogate Mr. NRN Murthy thoroughly and he is the big fish to be caught first. It is a fashion nowadays to blame only the politician and not the business man who is a partner. Both are hand-in-hand in major so called economical activities where thousands of crores of rupees spent in the name of development and siphoned to coffers of the elite. The politician fools the illiterate and the business man fools the so called literate.

Just that Narayana Murthy was first director, doesn’t mean that he is completely responsible for whole incompetency of system to get simple things done.its very difficult to blame someone of NRN Murthy's stature. Mr. Murthy has been applauded by all quarters of the society for building an industry (not just Infosys) in India. The IT industry owes a lot to Mr. Murthy and his company. Not to forget the value that he and his company have delivered to his shareholders over a period of time. The report which is tabled before the legislature could be indicating that there were several lapses.
