The Normal Central or State government employee has the age limit of 60 years. The Supreme court judge has the retirement age limit set to 65 years. Then why should politicians be allowed to work beyond certain age. why is there no provision that asks them to retire at a certain age from politics. lets list some politicians Atal bhari vajapayee, L K Advani, Manmohan singh, Devegowda, Jyoti basu, Tamilnadu CM, and the list goes on. you can also add as many as you guys remember let see how many of them are above 75 and still in politics. Additional Details first of all i am not afraid to mention any body's name here its just that i did not remember there name at that point one person said that why i should spare sonia gandhi well i am not its for all the politicians who are above say 65 years. i feel its logically not appropriate to say that politicians work better with no corruption at the old age i think this is insane My simple question is if every one else in INDIA has a retirement age then why is it that a politician does not have this compulsion make a rule which is common for all individual. Why can there be a law which says that the politicians have to take retirement. i also wanna ask all of them out there who are in support of no age limit for politicians when is the younger generation gonna get the chance in politics if you wanna argue it this way that we have gotta make our own way i would say how long is it gonna take you to be a true politicians and will the old aged people consider your views will they allow you to blossom with flying colors now here some of you might argue that Rahul gandhi is the newbie in politics and show me some more name but these are the relatives of some old politicians who are either dead or are so disabled that they feel the need of younger blood in there party and ya some one said with old age comes wisdom then why did that fight happened in the parliament some two years back. Some here spoke about APJ Abul Kalam i admire this man but he is not a politician to become a president in INDIA you need not be a politician you do not have any controls in the internal affairs of the country. There is some thing more to add over here and that is even politicians get monthly salaries till the time they die even if they serve the country just for a year. i.e. who ever is elected once get the salary for the rest of his/her life. which make them the government employees right. i know some of you might have an objection to that as well. In US the president cannot contest the election again once he/she becomes the president and the president can be on chair only for 8 years max. 1 year ago

I am going against this because, I have seen a person like Abdul kalam who is still rendering his services even now at such age, we need people like him and all the experience which he has in the world so that he can mentor many more like him, when someone is really good at something and still has the energy to put in some more years why are we forcing them to retire...We need all their experience as youngsters in India are a bit impatient till what we have seen, and we do not have many youngsters who can handle the job of politician, it can be dealt by a person who hasĀ  experience in getting things done. AndĀ  youngsters we do not find that capability in them. The social networking politicians are finding the wrath from all the corners lately. As still they don't the basic essence of Indian politics...So if a politician is good at his job let him continue there should be no problem at all.

I suggest that a politician must retire even before the government employees age, say 50 or 45 because till that time they have secured their respective households and relatives too far. In the era of youth participation these things are disappointing to see old and non-worthy people are getting benefited when this is the age of their sitting home in an armchair stretching legs and enjoy the sip of tea with the newspaper headlines and installing the cultural and traditional values in their grandsons. Abide by this formula and India will be a better place to live.

The retirement age should be fixed at 85 at least! However they should be allowed to continue if they are physically and mentally active and sharp and maintain a healthy lifestyle htt://enjoyafter50.com

Politicians must have minimum educational background, min age for entry to politics with adequete work experience of solving grass root problems. Finally, they must have a retierement age - which may be hiegher than Govt servants. After certain age their expierence may be utilised for advisory role rather than active politics.

"I think that politicians should have a age limit"

because young blood must get the opportunity to present themselves towards the nation. Not only politians must have a age limit but I also think that there must be qualification level. Nowadays most ministers are above 60 years and some ministers are not physically fit.

"I think that people who really think for the nation must be elected" "young generations are the pillars towards the development of the nation"

"I think that there must be a retirement age level for the politician"

not only there must be an age group for politians but i also think that ministers should not be elected again and again. And even I think that there must not be elections in their family members. For e.g. jawaharlal nehru's daugther Indira gandhi her son Rajiv gandhi and then his son rahul gandhi might become the ministers." So I think that people who really think for the nation must get the opportunity"

We expect our septuagenerians and octagenerians to work for the National Interest in Politics! Both the generations have failed to be "Role Models" for the upcoming society! Therefore, we need to have an AGE BAR!

If any Governmet employee can do his work up to age 60 years mean they were do all work without any obstacle and get any decission so in same way the politicians were also can not do his work after 60 years because this is the major decission for any contry so that they can not take any decission for country so retirment age of politicians should be 60 years.

If government employee can be considered unfit to do job after 60. Why should Ā one think that the same human species can be super fit to work as a politician.

But, it is happening here in our country...i dont know ...may be politicians works would be much easier than a government job.

yes, it should have a policy of political retirement because after compliting ege of 65 human boby does not have capacity work 8 to 12 hours. politics is not 8 hour job it a countinous field of work.political leader are the member of community, people follow there opinion and leadership and when people need their help there is 70 to 80 percent chance they cann't help more people than young leader. i know they have exprience better but after age of 65 political leader should take retirement, support young generation and play supporting role in politics.youth can develop better development plan as need of today society.

THANK YOU HIMANSU,FOR YOUR REFERRAL.IN OUR COUNTRY WE HAVE SUPER SENIORS AS IN SPORTS, AS POLITICAL LEADERS OCCUPYING TOP POSITIONSĀ  NOT ALLOWING YOUNGSTERS TO GROW.MANY ARE IN THEIR SEVENTIES OR EIGHTIES,NOT PHYSICALLY FIT ENOUGH TO RETAIN THEIR POSITIONS.MOST OF THEM DO NOT WANT TO DEVELOP SECOND LINE DEFENCE .IF AT ALL THEY SHOW ANY INCLINATION THEY WANT THEIR KITH AND KIN OR BLOOD RELATIVE TO SUCCEED THEM AND OTHERS ARE DEPRIVED OF THE OPPORTUNITY TO GROW.

SORRY TO DIFFER FROM SUJATHA`S VIEW.ABDUL KALAM IS IS A SOLITARYĀ  CASE OR ONE AMONG VERY FEW.LET US TALK IN GENERAL AND ABOUT THE VAST MAJORITY.IF AT ALL A SENIOR OR OLD PERSON PERSON IS SO KEENLY INTERESTED,HE DOES NOT NEED TO HAVE A POST OR POSITION TO GIVE VALUABLE GUIDANCE.ANYONE WILL WELCOME HIM AND HIS SUGGESTIONS PROVIDED THEY ARE WORTH.TODAY `S AGED PERSON WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPATIENT WHEN HE WAS YOUNG AND LET US MAKE COMPARISIONS AMONG EQUALS.IT IS HIGH TIME SOME ONE TAKES THE INITIATIVE TO FIX AGE LIMIT FOR POLITICIANS ALSO.

Yes, New people must get opportunity to take charge and this is possible only by retirement of old politicians. Our Prime minister (almost) were and is above 65 yrs old :) and others important position too hold by old people. I don't blame them for any cause but they must understand others are also capable to make this country strong in term of economy :)

hi Himanshu, theoretically i agree to this arguement but, practically do you think this will have any good effect? today only politicians are not bad/money minded even every rich who is in a position to command over a politician is still more worst evil in the system.even if a law is constituted regarding this maximum a politician after attaining specified age may get things done rather doing.system can be cleansed only by literate electorates with 100% participation in electoral process and not by any laws.

Yes, I strongly feel that politicians should also retire at some age. The present scenario in India where septuagenarians or octogenarians are ruling the roost, young politicians have a long wait to get into positions of power. Along with your body, mind also becomes rigid and less active as you age. There is a saying that politicians enter politics on two feet, but exit on eight. Our past history is full of ministers and prime/chief ministers who were removed by death. In India, where a majority of citizens come under the age of 35, it is very important that the old(at least at 80) must give way to younger people.

Ms.Sujata I support your statement for two reasons, one at last somebody saw positivity in politics and two youe example of Mr.Kalam.

Now I oppose you because He is basically a politician & he is contributing as Mr.Kalam & not as politician. He is as good as retired. I also want to add here that we have thousands of senior politician today and only one Mr.Kalam. Retirement is necessary and if you are convinced then join the other side...

Thank you Mr.Surendra for initiating a very debate.

Politician should have age limit as well as medical fitness. Age can be like corporates as decided say 75 years provided the person is physically fit.

Corruption has no relation to age, on the other hand the gen next is always faster & enthusiastic.

Hi Surendra, yes we need to have a retirement age for the politicians because they are not letting the next generation to enter into politics. As of government servants they should also be give some age limit above which they are not eligible to participate in election.

Apart form this we should make education as a basic qualification/eligibility for the politicians which will help our country grow much faster....... :)

Politicians are leaders of the nation and leaders have no age. Comparing their services with other class is unarguably absurd and sheer wastage of time n energy. Had that been the case..how many do you think would have chipped in for the cause of freedom fighting or other yeoman's services that have shaped our country beyond imagination in past 67 years. World has witnessed many small countries battling hunger and poverty having same years of independence. Coz they lacked vision and experience of top class. Babu, Patel, nehru and shastriji did work beyond their ages and ramped up the nation to world level from the post-effects of colonialism. Bad apples are omnipresent. Any omission/commission done by them shall not prejudice us on the noble service rendered by them for the nation. Moreover, no leading country has recognized the age for statesmen so far. Hence, no age barrier for them as experience comes with age and time.

Politics is a vocation. Government employment is paid service. Therefore, any paid service would have retirement age. A vocation such as politics or being a musician or artist cannot have a retirement age. But when a politician is also a government servant as in the case of being a minister then a retirement age makes sense. We cannot have ministers who are past their prime and so ill that they cannot even walk or talk properly. They need to be physically fit to perform their demanding jobs. However, if one just practices politics as a vocation one can carry on as long as one likes or as long as one can.
