Academic research on the uses of social media, initially the province of technology experts, has moved into business schools, and faculty are exploring questions like how people manage the boundaries between work and personal life in the virtual world.

As social-media sites like Facebook and Twitter transform the way companies communicate, business-school professors are scrambling to keep up with the fast-moving phenomenon of online networking, and help their students learn how to use the new technologies wisely.  Do you really think that schools and colleges should introduce  courses in Social media?? what are your thoughts on this people..

Sorry, to say but, there is no need to have course in social media because it is self explanatory and any one learn it if he is educated.

Social Media is the next big thing after the dotcom boom. Social Media is the vital element of Web 2.0. Harvard Business School and Columbia University's Graduate School of Business have already started courses on Social Media. It is also expected to reach newer heights in the near future.

@Chandra - it depends on what one uses social media for! while the usage of social media as entertainment comes naturally to people.. using it to benefit your organisation/company is a whole new ball game. I just attended the India Social Summit 2010 where we got a glimpse of how social media can be beneficial, and we paid Rs 7000 for those few titbits!

Now a days in our society evenif in oursleves too, the social & moral impact seems not to be better than any materialistic gain. So i beleive that it should be one of the steps that should be a compulsory couse in level of education. Thanks Aftab

I think schools & colleges should introduce courses in social media. Believe me Social media is the next biggest thing, and people have relevant knowledge and experience will be the most sort out guys in future.  Students are convinced that social media will play a big part in their careers and are eager for classroom time on the subject. Course on advertising and social media strategy today is drawing students like anything.

I've heard many students "say that they get asked about social media in every job interview that they have, whether it's a banking interview, a consulting interview," or any other sector. So, it would be great if students have a class on it.  With social media changing so quickly, students realize that there are some underlying fundamentals that are here to stay regardless of how the platforms change.  Most important, are changes in the ways businesses and customers talk to each other and how can businesses can leverage on that. So, it would be great schools and colleges introducing courses in Social media..
