The recent violence in Shimogha district Karnataka over the publication of a translated version of Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen's article in a Kannada daily turned against Burqa system in women are well known by all of us. Because of this incident, 6 persons had to die and other of injuries from assault. From past few years, Taslima Nasreen is quiet popular in media. Most of her artcles are against the Hypocrysm in Islam and tortures on non-muslims.

Because of this, she was driven out of her country from then she is staying in India. But here also, her articles are creating violence. Just two years back, a huge protest was done in Kolkata where lot of vehicles and shops were destroyed and now this incident in Shimogha. Do you think people, we should allow Taslima Nasreen to write this kind of controversial articles any more which creates so much of violence?

Deliberate controversies seem to be an effective way nowadays to create free publicity - at somebody else's expense.

India is a secular country. Everybody has independence to express their feelings. Moreover, When M.F.Husain painted nude pics of Hindu Goddesses, everyone was silent but when scholarly debate by Taslima on Burkha & need of female independence was published, it became anti Islamic!!! Is modernisation and Independence to women wrong??? Come on, we are staying in India not in Middle east. If government really cares about woman rights, then rather than just giving them Quotas, they should ban this age old hypocracy as well which stops them from progress but by staying mime in these cases, is showing its support to the minorities to fill its vote bank.

Every one has right to speech. But that should be used responsibly.

I would like to ask one question : whenever there is a controversy , whether it is M.F. Husain's paintings , or SRK's comments , or the alleged proselytization carried out by Christian missionaries , the list is endless , whenever there is a controversy , is the violence stirred up by one person , or is it by a group of people ?

Assume that , as a Hindu , I am offended by Husain's paintings. Am I likely to want him to be arrested , maimed , burnt or killed ? I , for one , can say that I will never wish such harm to anyone , however radical or offensive his / her opinions / words / paintings may be.

All of us agree , that in today's civilised society , even a serial killer or perpetrators of 9/11 or 26/11 are to be given justice and a fair trial. If this so , then why do other less offensive events arouse such violent emotions in us ?

We should ask ,  each of us , whether we are becoming less civilised , as time goes by.

To top it all , Taslima Nasreen has denied writing the controversial articles.

No, never should a person stopped from expressing the feelings. Its democracy principle boss.Let her express her feelings freely.

She is matured enough to have a control over what she writes.

We should respect a woman's expression coming out this way.

I think yes. Taslima's article is creating lot of controversy around the world. She is hurting the feelings of many people. Moreover, because of her article, the violance which is created is creating a lot of destruction of Public property. So I think, government should impose some kind of restrictions on Taslima's articles.

in the enlightened world of 21rst century there is no scope for attrocities of medieval ages. Every person should have the freedom of speech and expression. every matter should be subject to critcal analysis. Opposition , if any , should be only of the matter / thought and not of any person, and should be in a respectable way.

If anyone disagrees with TASLIMA on any point/matter, he should bring it to the Knowledge of the people for their kind consideration.

Everyone must be able express freely about their opinions. The Taslima or News paper never used any word/s that is abusive (like the ones that are used in street fights). It has become a fashion to burn down vehicles, shops etc., We need to be more tolerant. There is police there is court. People should 1st approach them. Taking law into once han is not justified. News paper editors should be severely punished if found guilty, because Taslima says she never authorized the news paper to print the article. Be it Bal Tak of Mumbai, Leaders in Telangana an then this issue. It feels like Govt. has no control over law and order. Our enemy courtiers can easily take advantage of this attitude of ours and instigate riots.

Really Yash, when did Media become Paragon for Justice?

"Writing is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it becomes a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster and fling him to the public."
- Winston Churchill

I think we should not restrict writing, if we want to restrict we should do that with our news papers that we see daily, but we are not able do that. She is single and for this simple reason we are increasing the decibel of our voice against her and moreover these kind of controversies proves that her writing has got truth and false never affects and it has no any property to create friction and controversies like this. We do not have any rights to control the ink flow of a person.

When someone takes courage to point out the dirt & bring it to limelight , there is awlays a group or individual who gets hurted & tends to create as much chaos as possible because they know it truly exists !

When sir.Isac Newton said the shape of the earth is round and glob, he was executed by the then church. I  really do not  know the 21st century man is pretending to be illiterate or trying to take undue advantage of the situations. I strongly believe the lack of education is the reason for such reactions from the public, guided by blind leaders of religions. Every man should understand the man created God and religions. If we were not human there could be no God and religion. Let people express their findings through writings. We have our full right to accept of reject.

I agree with you Kavitha. One, she's Bangladeshi by nationality, two she enjoys the freedom to write all that she thinks is right & third and most importantly, what happened in Shimoga is after her article was translated & published locally. Don't we have more important, critical & disgusting characters as Thackerys, Hussains, and likes to deal with? Lets first set our house in order and look outwards thereafter.
