According to me being an Indian i surely don't want to see the auction happening, as there is so much sentiments attached to it for all the Indians, as he was the father of our nation who fought for our independence. So Government should rightly intervene and if it is against the rules they should buy those items placing the highest bid by themselves and bring it back to India.

ofcourse it should not happen, as there is so much at stake there, as it is mentioned that its only mere 20,000$ for those items i guess any one of the wealthy indians should outbid everyone in the auction and bring them back to india. As the news is going by it is said that many Indians are trying their hand at the auction. So hopefully Mahatma Gandhi's items will be back to India.

Auction should happen as the items of Gandhiji is being already in the auction house, and they can't stop it, and if Government of India approaches Newyork court and all they might stop the auction momentarily but not for too long, and the auction will happen, so Let the auction happen, and let Sant singh chatwal who is telling that he'll outbid everyone and bring those items back to India, I guess Indian Government should bid on behalf of Mr. chatwal and bring it back.
