I think we have passed the golden age of petroleum oil, and now its the time for new sources of energy. Yes, someone could argue that the gasoline engine still able to give the best output and this true. But at the same time a lot of countries all over the world have great economic and environmental problems because of using such technology. The main struggle of spreading the electric cars, as I can see, is the huge infrastructure of current automotive production. The massive corporations of oil and the OEM's are very reluctant for such a new trend in the automotive industry. The question now is : Who dare to invest money in such a new area ?? The one who is able to do will be the first one who will reap the sweets

I do not agree to this point of electric cars being "low in performance". There are electric cars which can go faster than 125 mph!! They are presently expensive but it is possible for electric cars to be high in performance. Check the following link for some details on one of the models.http://www.teslamotors.com/

Fuel prices also are rising, we also need to care for our environment. We cannot consume all the fuel available and leave noting for the future generations. Lets use electricity, zero pollution energy and its cheap too...

THe volatility & inflating of crude prices have automotive companies realise the danger of relying only on one fuel source ( which is very limited). Time has come now to view alternative sources & of them electric seems the most promising. THe technology is available, it does not pollute & there is residue.

yes, see today we have best bateries available with natural charging such as solar also fuel cells are availble though it is on seperate list but with batteries there are much to do and and an ease of access as electricity is available at almost 98% of india and other sources for ex. LPG AND CNG and still not available everywhere but only 30% of india being easy on count

Yes, The Automobile industry is growing in India rapidly and due to the price hike and deficiency of fossil fuel, every country should an come out with alternate methods of fuelling their cars but keeping in mind the emission levels. Electric automobiles are good alternatives. Moreover Hydro Powered Automobiles can also bring a revolution in the automobile industry world-wide.

I do think electric vehicles is the future for automobiles. The present option of directly charging batteries may not the right solution though. The new Hydrogen powered electric cars from Honda and the others may be the right solution as these cars tend to have more power as well as the Hydrogen powered cars run longer than the normal battery run cars. Hydrogen is available in abundance. The expensive part is getting the pure Hydrogen. Presently a litre of hydrogen (liquid form) costs more or less the same as that of petrol. But this should come down when more research is done in this field. The exhaust from these hydrogen powered cars is water. Presently these cars are very expensive. But with increase in popularity the prices are bound to come down.

from my point of veiw if in india electricity problem should not be change then this formula of electric bikes will not be so popoular. because today according to the market situation the ruler areas are now attracting to the bike indutries and we all known that in ruler areas india is still fighting for electricity problems.

Undergoing a revolution is dependent decision of Need rather than will of a organization. Now there is a need for such technology and environment. Yes, electric cars are now costly , dont forget even first level cars also costed a fortune in their initial stages. Yes, but none the less, the heart of the vehicle Battery in this case of EV is setting up , i think it will not be long before we start talking about Battery 'Run times'. Nonetheless , In India we might face some problems. 1. Battery run times can differ and EV needs good roads. 2. Battery recharge stations.( Quick and cheap to charge ). 3. Battery recycling possibility. 4. If the cars get cheaper , we should change our driving habits. Congesting the road for one's own stupidity or selfishness wont help. Finally, if the revolution is needed no one can stop it.

Yes, of course automobile indutry should take electrical revolution. Though it is in its primeval position, I think this is the right time. Battery technology is evolving in a very fast pace, it needs tremendous acceleration. The discarding/recycling of used battery needs attention. Though they take lots of time to get charged, I am sure, if we start implementing now, in the due course of time, very soon, new technology batteries will come which will take very less time to get charged and will be long lasting. Electric revolution will check the pollution in the environment and will be eco-friendly as it will check pollution to a lot extent. Also, the rate in which oil is finishing, after 100 years there will be no fuel to run engines. We'll be needing something like electric technology at that time. If we start implementing from now only, it can take a very good position by that time....

Hello everyone, at the time I recive this mail there are 18votes in YES & 17votes in NO categary, so I am voting for NO & made compitation equal. My debate follows...! Every Engineer or person related to Automobile field is trying to just create attraction by makeing some useless debates like, Automobiles which can run on Water, Air or Dry cells(Battery)etc. Water & Air categery are totally comic, but Battery Designes are gaining some extra-ordinary concentration around the world, which according to me is a useless. My Debate Starts : As enveryone agree that, today automobile is essential part of human life. We Designe an Automobile for as per you needs, for example 1. For Personal Travel, Mass Travel, Comfort & Luxury Travel, Fast & Effective Travel. 2. For tansportation of goods(Heavy, Industrial & Demostic). It is clear that all the above needs are very accurately achived by the Diesel & Petrol Vehicles. But the same can never be achived in Battery Designes. Then why are we wasting time & billions of money in serch of alternate rather than developing the present one's by implimenting some new technology to minimize the pollution. As we know, the only resigon for switching to Battery Designes to control pollution. But my dear friends usage of Battery Designes regularlly genrates much more amount of Acidic & Carbon agents in the atmospher, which harms in very higher ratio with compared to present situation.

When we plan to go for an outing, we go to a gas station a get a tankfull. It's just a matter of few minutes. We may continue our course, with about 250-300km. A hybrid car can allow for such convenience without impacting much to the enviornment. Hybrid powerplants using electric motors to run the vehicle & small IC engine to charge battery is the most economically viable & technically possible option today. So on a tankfull the range may increase exponentially. Untill we have the Technical knowhow to power the vehicle for 200km range using a single charge, please keep experimenting only.

As on todays Electric Cars / 2 wheelers are no comparision with fuel vehicles , as of now the system on electric vehicles has the limitation , which can never meet fuel vehicle standards like power , speed , size / capacity , eazy drivability , fuel filling & wieght of vehicle . An electric vehicle can deliver the power but not speed as being used in industry Fork Lift / Maini and only for inhouse use , since over night & frequent battery charging is required . In case an Electric Car is to be designed to meet Fuel Vehicle Standards , The Electric Motor driving Power & to atain the required speed , size of motor & battery will be huge and to match equielant Milage from a full fuel tank on electric vehicle More groups of battries required on vehicle , further add in weight . Charging will be another issue for a big battery bank . The cost of such car will be very high may be 4-5 times & size will be like small truck . Hence what ever cars are developed till now are very small with bare minimum power to run at max. 50 KMPH , with bare minimum Battery capacity , this car can be used only Intracity or may be short distances only , only two persons can travel , to keep the weight low the body is made of plastic . In future if fuel is finished these kind of vehicles will come in demand , but how the life will be running on 40 - 50 KMPH , will there be Electric available to charge the Battery ? A Hybrid Car Fueled Cum Electric May be one solution will become popular in coming early future time . Hence Battery Driven Cars with Good Power & high Speed may not be vaible now , Alternate fuels are in Consideration & under development may be the next revaluation in automobile industry .

Everyone seems to cling to the idea that electric cars are the future and do not think of how we generate electricity. What impact would the extension of electric grid all over India have on the environment. With some countries experiencing short rainfall Hydroelectric power may not be the solution to some countries and we all know the impact of nuclear power station on the environment. I am sure some one has raised up his/her hand saying solar energy, I am sure it would be fantastic to drive a solar car in Novograd in Russia or in Helsinki. Well cars can be made to run on water and my question is which water? How many household de we have in India without portable water supply and how many Africans trek a kilometer or more each day to collect water. It is a well known fact that when farmers switched from planting food crops to planting crops for bio-diesel food prices when enormously high not only in the developing world but also in the developed world. Before we take on any major socio-economic and industrial transformation, we should think of the environment first before our needs.

As of now the full cycle pollution for EFV's is much higher than vehicles running on conventional fuel. Effort should be made to make the conventional fuel cleaner. This way the various alternatives are available and then it would be possible to balance the total energy requirements based on the most efficient cost effective fuel for a particular application.

I totally agree with prakash and Devi here...let us stick with current fuel for the time being..as there is not much happening in the Electric cars as the next option...so you can't just say a yes and a no for this topic..and than electric it is good to go green by going for alternate fuel option, like biofuel.

This problem is not as easy as voting "yes" or "No". Compared to use of fuels for Automotive industry, the carbon foot print of electric power is bigger. This will be till nuclear & other non-conventional power sources become viable option. Apart from this, the use of electric power will add many restrictions on Automotive, like rechargability, safety features, speed etc. After addressing to all these problems, then the debate on this will be meaningful. Looking into environment problems, it is desirable to develop Automotive technology based on green fuels as alternate to fossil fuels

Dear Vivek, you are right that we should take action to reduce pollution but electric revolution is not the right choice. The generation of electric power produces more pollution than any other single industry in the United States. So this might not help us. And we are already facing scarcity of electricity.
