All foreign players have been demanding that the DoT do away with the double taxation system for the last two years. It seems their dream may come true recently as the department of telecom (DoT) deciding to do away with the current system.

This will increase the competition for the Indian Telcos. Should this demand be accepted? What is your view on this?

First of all, there is so much internal competition, when why to bring more competition? This move will enable the foreign players to compete with established players such as Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications and BSNL in the domestic market. Besides, it will also help them bag deals from domestic and foreign firms to handle their international business. Though this wil add to the revenue but why take a step which will benefit the foreign countries in our land.?

So according to me the double tax system should be there. What is your view on this?

In a move that is set to impact all foreign carriers that offer long distance services in India, the Department of Telecom (DoT) has deferred plans to do away with the double taxation structure that these international carriers are subjected to here.

I agree with you Sonal..by opening up Telecom sector to foreign players our National companies will have to face more competition...which ultimately will mean price war and reduction in revenues for Indian companies...

Customers would benefit with more competition...but instead Indian Telecom companies should themselves come out with schemes and prices which benefit their users/subscribers...I feel 'Roaming charges' in Indian states should be removed by all Telecom companies ... Indians should be able to call and receive phones at same prices in all states they are in ...
