I think tax sops should be given to energy efficient products. They save a lot of energy immaterial of their more cost but these will be useful in the longer run. By giving tax benefits, they will become cheaper. Government should implement energy efficient motor, energy efficient motor means winding heavy core material good insulation residence, naturally cost of the product increases as a result people go for cheap, because except big industries, small work shop or common people aren't still aware of energy efficiency, but if tax benefit is given there will be some cut in its prise and naturally both manufacturers & users will prefer these products.

we need to implement and ensure that it really works, that is, all the steps taken in the direction of energy saving is implemented. In India from Government to common people the purchase criteria is L1 and technical advantage and long term benefits stand next to L1. My suggestion is to make that the energy efficient 5star rated appliances to be more competitive Govt can provide tax incentive instead of taxing the product. Definitely effective implementation of this TAX INCENTIVE can be done provided the will is there at political and administrative levels. In India the facilities and implementing agencies are well established already. Now the immediate requirement is present5ing the idea at the right forum by right people. We should leave mother earth to our children where we had inherited. Let us put at least we start this type of discussion.

Yes tax benefit must be given for energy efficient products.Let's take an example of energy efficient motor, energy efficient motor means pure cu winding heavy core material good insulation resitence, naturally cost of the produt increases as a result people go for cheap, because except big industries, small work shop or common people are'nt still aware of energy efficiency, but if tax benefit is given there will be some cut in its prise and naturally both manufacturars & users will prefer these products.

I think there should be tax benefits for Buying energy effcient appliances,as people are paying more to buy products which save energy and this will be useful in the longer run and government should implement this, as of now there is so much shortage of power in the recent days, and with electrical appliances which can save energy will do a lot good for that reason. so according to me there should be tax sops for this energy efficient products.

I think there should be tax sops for products which are energy efficient, as the products costs a bit more than usual but then one can save a lot more energy than before and Government should have promoted this and with this they would have helped a cause in this regard.

Yes Prakash, you are right, providing Sops for Energy Efficient Appliances will undermine it's importance as a measure of Energy saving will save energy and money.

Even though i want to be on the yes side but i can't as it is not that simple to take that decision as prices of electrical appliances would differ from brand to brand, like for instance, a 1.5-tonne air conditioner from X company with a rating of two-star would cost Rs 15,000, and an air conditioner of same capacity and energy-efficiency level from Y company would cost Rs 25,000. Hence, it is likely that Y's three star rated product will attract a tax exemption equivalent to that of a five-star rated X product, even as the energy-efficiency levels are different. So you see its a bit complicated, hence Finance minister couldn't take that decision.
