I do not understand that in what pretext are you asking this question. We cannot ban anything just like that. It is our moral duty to reduce it and not to do it when not necessary. Bad manners or good manners both are in our DNA. This doesnot justify the statement.

Not only unwanted honking is bad,but also keeping bright head light continuously without need, which is a major cause for many accidents especially in highways. In Europe if one honk, the driver in the front will come out and give him a good thrashing. I have seen once with my own eyes that a honking guy escaped get beaten by pleading that he is taking his wife to hospital.

Here in India people are least bothered about others, and find this more so in Kerala. Like Christ said, "Do unto others what you like them do unto you"

Honking randomly and aggressively is a form of noise pollution so it should be banned.

Anyone who has been abroad , not just in Europe or North America , but even in Asian countries like Singapore , will see that the horn is the least used part in a car !

In India , it is the most used !

The ban should be forever , and contravention should be severely penalised. The question is how ?

What I am trying to say is that we do not seem to understand that honking is not essential to the driving process and it is even possible to drive and not honk for 24 hours. I am supporting a short tern ban because to educate you need to put in a regime in place. Much like children going to school, or making breaking traffic rules a punishable offence. If you do nor believe honking is a grave problem in our country, ask any overseas visitor and he will tell you that we are a nation of incessent honkers-mostly without resaon!

It should be a proper ban, and not for short period. Offenders should be imposed high fines for violation,

Bad manners are almost a part of our DNA. Only a short period of absolutely no honking is necessary to wean off people from their addiction to honking at the slightest pretext or no pretext at all.

Its not possible to ban smoking. A person smokes willingly fully aware of the consequences. I think its better for smokers to think twice before smokes. There is also need for more "no smoking zones" so that non-smokers don't suffer the ill effects of smoking.

India is a country of billion plus population with 1.7 million cars in Delhi alone. The average speed is 12 Km to 14 Km per hour. Reason? The narrow roads, there are intersection after say every 250 metre.

So I feel honking is probably necessary in India at present though i am firmly against Honking.

Honking is a psychological symptom of the Driver - banning or not banning, it hardly makes any difference for the one who has no concern for public manners whatsoever! This also stems from the fact from traffic jams, delays, pressure from the bosses, and various other things, the driver is not in direct control of the situation. Sometimes, they do it for fun too, especially its common among the youngsters - they have learn public manners only by experience!
