Net netrality is the priniciple that says all information flowing across the internet should be treated equally. But with more people streaming data rich video and playing online games, the internet faces congestion concerns. Should carriers be able to sell multi-tierd access to heavy users? should sites that generate massive traffic like, google and yahoo pay extra fees.

The US government is examining the net neutrality and its financial, legal and social implications. Do we need federal intervention to ensure fairness. Or this is an issue for the market to workout? So, what do you think people, Should we support net neutrality?

I think net neutrality will be internets first ammendment, and with net neutrality coming in there will be scope of innovation in internet technology, and also more consumer protection, but I will rather be regulated by my government, which is at least supposed to be accountable for its actions and is supposed to serve its citizens, rather than a corporation like Google and Telecom players, who’s only interest is money.

Sorry Tanya. I would go for a level playing field.

Taxing heavy users like Yahoo, Google etc.. will be like penalising efficiency, hard work and marketing skills.

Remember: It is "Money" that is the currency which is the meter for success. By stifling the drive to earn & grow more, we will be throttling the drive of innovation for so many new and upcoming inventors.

Everyone aims towards becoming another "Microsoft" or "Google" or "Reliance".

A resounding YES!! That is the power of the net and it is a fewNet companies who are trying to make money from it by restrictng access to all. SNOB VALUE I guess sells.

Net neutrality is the idea that everyone with internet should be able to access the same content online no matter what carrier they were with or how much they paid for their internetTto me it is best to the customers

I think net neutrality will not be as we would like it to be ,essentially it will be controlled by the government but we must be positive and support it as it surely provide the scope for innovation and more accumulation of diverse ideas that will in turn help the development----

I think if internet is under a ownership then somewhere it is not fully utilized, somewhere any organization privatiztion create "cut throat" competiton but "it is also true competition create ,innovate new technologies but somewhere it may be difficult to consumer right to information restricted ,protection ,etc." Under government these problem comes again but "old wine in new bottle "

If carriers provide multi-tiered access, I think the democratic nature of internet is violated.

I like to have some regulation in place. We can't rely on ethical/morale of some corporate executives anymore. They showed complete lack of it recently.

However, I like to point out that the recent debate is not about Google paying extra for being a heavy traffic generator. Rather, Google and Verizon is trying to introduce a system where traffic generator (i.e. Google) can pay money to the traffic bearer (i.e. Verizon) so that they traffic gets priority over others. This is to ensure that youtube video have the broader highway so it is delivered smoothly. At the same time, those sites not paying will be less prioritize so they will be "relatively" slow.

This is very dangerous as it will destroy the whole Internet as we know today.

I lost all respect for Google for this. I am switching to Bing from today.

Hello Taniya, I may not agree with you. It depends on the individual to decide. Government regulation will be a dangerous precedent, if they implement. Already we are suffering with the government agencies.

I don't think we need net neutrality here where the government agencies are controlling the whole thing, and in the end you need to pay for that, and if something comes in government hand then Innovation research every thing will go for a toss ans private companies like Google and telecom vendors are more into research stuff and not just providing service. Also it will increase more Government monitoring of Internet and there will be content which will not be allowed to access which government thinks should not be shown to public. There will be no democracy....
