Young blood should be given preference, because company requires aggressive people for decision making activities,BUT, experience people should play passive role in that. Young ones can make quick decision, but experience person shows whether that decision is healthy for company or not!!!!

It all depends on work profile. In some cases, practical experience is very much required for decision making. In IT sector, young blood can be hired at senior position but for manufacturing it would be tough to hire at senior position.

This depends more on the attitude of the HR, as famously stated "A listed HR appoints A-listed candidates" and this does not only depends on academic qualifications. Choosing the right candidate for a vacant post is a very challenging responsibility and the challenge is tougher if the vacant spot is of a senior position. Appointing experienced professional is a safe way to ensure solidarity but good HR's appoints the right candidate. Evaluating the right candidate weather young or old depends largely on the ability of the HR. As far as my view is concerned it is the right candidate that matters rather than young or old.

It depends upon the caliber of candidate not on the age and experience. Now-days, business studies are much advance and resources are easily available. Hence the potential candidate develop themselves much earlier as compare to past 10 years. The senior peoples are respected but this is not the criteria of any position. In business there is only one criteria who can make profit and have understanding of management nerve.

YES & NO. I wish there exist a 'NUTRAL' side also in all such arguments. May be Toostep's organizers have a look into this. Like I mentioned in Mr. Nitin Aras posting: It shall be combination of both; Wisdom of elders and Vigor of youngsters. Basically this is being adopted in almost every organization. Youngsters placed in government with IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, ITS selection and training process and the MBAs from management institutions placed in private establishments are exactly with this idea. In that respect this topic is out of place. If the author's suggestion is that everyone in senior management position should be replaced with youngsters, it does not appear tenable neither to any logic nor sense. Does it mean that youngsters will remain always young and not become old. A so called 'youngster' who acquires commensurate qualification and experience for a senior managerial position will be at least in his late 30's or early 40s. Naturally he is expected to worke another 15 to 20 years while the 'youngster' status changes to 'Elder' as he grows in his position till eventually he quits. Fact being so, as visibly seen in such topics, that late generation youngsters want to grab the jobs in senior management positions without going through the pain of growing and gaining experience. This is evident from another posting I saw in Toostep suggesting that retirement age should be reduced to 45. Yes, there is a more serious side to these arguments. In many public institutions and establishments, people enter in lower grades reach management position though regular time bound promotions. The system as it is may not be as effective as the direct recruits though there are many exceptions too. However, such considerations are based more of a social obligation with certain known but affordable perils. The worst of all is that the ones who decide the country's current management and its future are mostly of the older lot and here we need a quick change. Perhaps, this is an area where we need to raise our voice more.

Senior position assignment get dictate by ability and not age. Young blood in my understanding does not reflect a age wise younger person. For a decision makers position it needs to imply Agility, Accuracy, Innovation and updated knowledge bank. If a company can find this combination in any individual they should be promoted/appointed to the top posts, irrespective of their age.

There is surely no substitute to being first time right and it is towards this goal that experience counts.

The position for which an individual is hired has certain basic pre-requisites. If a person meets these pre-requisites, then he is suitable for the position irrespective of the position being senior. However, experience also plays a major role as with experience, an individual is better prepared to handle risks and contingencies if they arise as he would have been exposed to similar issues earlier. Thus, the design of the job profile along with the pre-requisites should take these factors into account....

While it may sound beneficial to hire young talent for their risk taking ability, aggression, energy and skills, they do not fair well when it comes to handling situations which require experience. Yes, companies should hire young blood for their top positions. The trend is changing and it is seen that many companies are hiring young people with 20yrs of experience for the top positions of the company. The reason for this are that young people have characteristics like aggression, achievement focus, goal orientation and tech savvy, especially critical in the dynamic and competitive environment of the IT/ ITes and telecom sectors.

Obviously young people cannot. Young blood take the time to properly identify and develop the required behaviors, abilities, knowledge and skills of the position. Ask yourself whether or not these required competencies can only be obtained through the process of earning a degree or if they can be acquired through experiences before we hire any position. At minimum, we have to learn more about the job requirements and better understand how that position fitting within our organization.we cant compete with experience people.

Young is relative but I favor heavily for the experienced. Capability & capacity to endure is far more important, as is the necessity to be far reaching & long term - short term is partial to aggression & that is not always the solution The need to quantify "young" is imperative, but experience far outweighs the age factor. I think may of us would learned the hard way, that an issue dealt with patience has far more impact, than one with aggression

Senior positions would invite a lot of decision making skills and definetly a person with a good experience alone can handle such a job. So i believe a younster should learn and followto succeed to emulate. Young blood should be groomed as they can be aggressive but the need of the hour has to be personnel with decision making abilities in the industry and experience alone can teach such knowledge

Actually the position will be cleared with the information : --- Hiring agencies are not finding senior people for "senior positions" in some fields. As usual, there are darth of seniors for re-deployments. -- thus, finding no way, they are 'prescribing' for comparetively young talents who are " agressive, analytical, risk-tolerant etc ( all-in-one)" for senior positions. --- Employers are just judging the situation/s.

Whereas it is to some extent oxymoronic to talk about young senior managers, personally I think that the principal criteria for filling any position should be that of experience and proven performance. That being said, in today's world, age bias does tend to favor the young. Regardless, to my way of thinking the bigger error does not lay so much in the issue of young vs old(er) or even capable vs experienced, but rather in the preponderance of weight given to backgrounds reflecting Left-Brain excellence vs those individuals with balanced, wholistic capabilities. There is no lack of "smarts" in the world. High intelligence, even genius are really not scarce items at all. However, what seems to be lacking the world over are individuals with perspective, integrity, honesty, and good ole, plain "common sense". Unfortunately, the lack of these knows no age discrimination. Wisdom is in short supply amongst both our youth and the more mature.

Yes. provided the youngsters have good mentors to train them to take up those senior positions. But where are the mentors? The youngsters should also have for handling the pressures and take informed and sane decisions. And this maturity and decision making skills come with experience. And experience comes with age.

the grills and grinds of a senior position many a times plays havoc with a young professional. the burnout syndrome is quite common with such less experienced young. a senior position requires vast experience, patience, fire fighting skills, pressures,a cool mind in the most adverse circumstances which incidentally a young blood find little difficult to cope.

Physical age is just a number. It is a fallacy that the young are , per se , more adventurous , risk taking , creative , innovative ,... You can have even octogenarians who are better than teenagers and adults in their twenties , in all these aspects of their personality. Examples are M.F. Husain , Clint Eastwood , Amitabh Bachchan ,... Age does bring with it experience and possibly wisdom , both of which are to be considered for senior management positions. To say that young blood is automatically good , is like saying looks are desirable in an actor. This was the axiom in the olden days ; today this no longer holds true ; acting talent has more weightage than mere looks / dancing skills.

Young blood means what ... I understood that person should have courage, zeal, receptive, enthusiastic and energetic ... is there any age factor .... Experience always plays a role, specially when we have to analyze the things ... it may come with less working years or may be at later stage ... but above characteristics person shoud carry .... Mr Ramesh is right here.... If the person has the capabilities ... can be selected at higher position ..... Company and HR trends are like ... walk of sheeps .... one company took some initiatives .... find something good .. and make a trend for the same ... and HR follows the same as case study is good ... but all the time same phenomena will work no body can ensure it.... In my opinion ... Human resource is one of the critical resource or critical piller on which organization real success depends ..... Age should not be a factor .... Yes characteristics of youngness is important.
