Yes - it can be used as measurement. lets take GE approach in developing enhancement for product based on Voice of customer. Please remember, i'm not saying six sigma is the best or is the only one.

Six Sigma is a Statistical Control Process term, which defines the process and controls it in such a way, so that end product’s quality factors as well as other parameters do not deviate beyond the +3&-3 limit of standard deviations from the desired quality parameters. This certainly can be used for good or better measurement of product quality, organization efficiency and productivity. Yes this reduces the risk of capitalist, but that does not mean to guarantee a successful launch of the product. Product does have to have its own USP to stand in business competition and market. Six Sigma is only applicable to have your controlling mechanism in place with the help of some mathematical and statistical tools.

certainly NO.six sigma comes into a picture when all common and technical methods fail to give a good product.if any one uses for brand upcomming, it will be as good as that product has been tried for so many common tests and it has failed and finally its entire process is corrected by this tool called six sigma.this tool should be for internal correction of process for defect free performance and sustainability / reducing wastage etc.,

As we all understand that six sigma is a quality measurement and improvement tool that helps reach & maintain the optimum level of quality. Now, when the product is not yet launched in the market, it becomes difficult to have the quality for the product mapped. To my opinion, this tool is not useful when the product is yet to be launched.

Well as we all understand Six Sigma is a quality measurement tool for reducing errors or in other terms to reach between +-3 deviations. Now can this be used for an upcoming product in the market; To my opinion, sigma can be calculated only when the product has been launched. In other words, we can apply six sigma techniques to bring the quality level to the optimum only the product is in market.

Sonal i agree with you and adding to what you said Six Sigma is a disciplined, data driven approach
and methodology for eliminating defects (driving towards six standard
deviations between the mean and the nearest specification limit) in any
process -- from manufacturing to transactional and from product to
service. To achieve Six Sigma, a process must not produce more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities. The fundamental
objective of the Six Sigma methodology is the implementation of a
measurement-based strategy that focuses on process improvement and
variation reduction through the application of Six sigma improvement projects.

"I totally agree with it as its a tool where in its tried to minimise the return complaints from the user of the product.According to the faults reported in the product its further placed in different sigma levels.Six sigma is the level where every manufacturer want to reach as for that they have to make best qulaity product" .
