Several cosmetic cos promise fairness, glowing skin and so on through paper ads, tv commercials, anchored by famous bollywood actors and actresses. some even claim that the difference can be seen in a matter of days.

Not at all. This is not possible to change nature given complexion. I am surprised how they spend so much on marketing these products. I think it relates to our society's obsession with fairness and the marriage market.

Thanks Disha! These cosmetic companies and movies highlight fair complexioned ppl and ridicule the dark complexioned ones! and the worst part is that bollywood idols endorsing such products! No one is worried about millions of Indian girls who feel inferior when they are discriminated based on complexion. It's racist and violation of human rights! Is it a handicap of being dark. These companies make money in the expense of millions of broken hearts!

it is basically to earn more profit out of large volume sales. Earlier there used to be fairness cream only for women now it is for men also.

A good skin will glow with a little bit of nurturing. So using a fairness cream will naturally glow one's skin but it may be temporary.

My answer is NO. All are techniques in promotional activities to sell their products. Natural beauty is the only beauty which does not require any artificial cosmetics. Once used to cosmetics, then without make-up the face will never look charming. Thanks for the referral Mr.Sashi Das.

For frequent application of these GELS, CREAMS, you may be washing face many a times (before & after). This may be making you brighter & glossy as the advt claim.

Fair skinned people wants to be brown and brown people wants to be fair; the journey continues... In the process the cosmetics companies reap their harvest.

"All that Glitters is not gold"! You see the glowing skins of your grand parents who applied only natural products to maintain that glow! Turmeric and Sandal pastes do great wonders; when you have them in abundant in India, why go for such chemical cosmetics?

I agree with Manish. Fairness creams don't serve their purpose. It is a good way to cash in on people's sentiment to become fair. May be the creams work as moisturizers but will not give the fairness as promised by these brands. "Jaago Grahak Jaago"
