I am not trying to sound pessimistic, but the pitfalls in 'Social Networking' are many.While it provides a platform for interaction across physical barriers of any kind,across nationalities, geographies, genders and age, the intent of those interacting is never known with certainty.People out of sheer curiosity tend to become snoopy. If approached with restraint and self defined limits - yes social networks are OK but certainly not a must by any means. Moreover, they deprive an individual of a real identity. I got the contacts of all my batch mates after a decade through Facebook. Hence I feel the social networking is palying major role to keep consistant interaction with our good old friends..

We all love to socialize to either get heard or seen and social networks aid in doing just that. Sharing knowledge or dating or even just building your network span...all of them have been made possible by the social networking sites. Now, lions you all know are social animals too. Am sure if they are given facebook/twitter/orkut, they too would have got their photos uploaded to show off their manes to the registered lionesses only. I mean anybody social would love to get hold of some tool to socialise and that's why you are here voting for/ against the topic.

I feel social networks have helped people in lot many ways. We can get connected to people of our interests either personally or even professionally. Though some may feel that they intrude our privacy it is up to individual's discretion as what to reveal and what not to. With many privacy settings in place one can ensure the required levels of privacy they need. Bravo!!!!

Social networking is the best way to keep up with the latest technology, with all generations across geographies and news across the world instantly. For now we should not look at the negatives that are obvious with any new change in the technology and culture.
