Like any other field HR too has various areas like recuritment, training, manpower development, talent management, knowledge management etc. Therefore one can have knowledge on all these areas but has to be a specialist in one particular to become professional. Like doctors, engineers, HR too is a profession and a person should become a specialist in particular area of HR.

When we see top management people who are not educated at all at MBA level, we find them more successful than anyone else. This happenbs because they see things from generalist perspective with idea centred upon getting things done and minimizing risk. Such type of thinking and idea a specialist cannot have. Hence generalist is necessary for a person wo either wants a career in consultancy or at the top management level.

Ya I totally agree with Rahaman sir, without specialization, you not able to take any firm decision. when u are specialist for that u are confidant about your decision and you know all the factors which is  involved in it.

The generalist having the product knowledge, procurement strategies, bit of HR skills and good at interpersonal skills can be a better Project Manager. Government (civil services) and also some companies in construction industry train their managers in all disciplines of their department right from the inception, and go for job rotation also impart various skills in their managers and make them generalists.

In my opinion a generalist is perfect choice for a project manager.

Intitially at the beginning of career, its always better to work as a generalist. It provides you a strong base and hold on all the areas of your field and then one can specailise in any of the segments as per his/ her skills and inclination. This phase should be generally when one reaches middle level. Later by the time one has requisite experience /exposure  of working both as a generalist and specilist he can be a part of top management and can manage all the employees effectively( having got all the relevant exposure to head a  diversified team).

Why we debate on this is of the word "FREE", Free creates a sense here that efforts will go of with no value, Therefore these type of common causes should have value regulations which will maximize the success.
Yes, to an extent it is true, because of the biased approach. If the company has well prescribed HR policy this bias could be reduced. The job security is depending on the stipulated norms which is strong in government sector and weak in private sectors.
I am completly in line with Mr. Kaliyamoorthy's argument.
