We are not running a business to see whether this amount is worth spending. In a democratic country having more than billion people spending this much of amount is not bad. What we need at this moment is accountability of the amount spent during the elections. Now election commission is strict in following election conduct rules otherwise the amount will be doubled.

We forget to see the other side of the coin. If 10K are soend on the elections then even the politicians are spending like for air travel @1K crore is expected to be spend also in these recession time the buisness houses are not to keen to sponsor the politicians who at the end have to bring out their black money. Also revenues in terms of alcohol , hotels , petrol is boosted . And at the very end if we get a good goverment ( high hopes ) then all these thoughts of wayward spendings will be history.

If it is just a debate, i can support you dear, but the fact remains, there are election held in every 2 years instead of 5 years? no one is concerned about the expenditure and utility of taxpayers contributions, unfortunately in democracy, the voters prominence and role ends the moment he votes and put the ballet in box and come out of the booth, the part two which is so un-organised and uncultured, that the leader whom the voter has supported would change either his party or the support the opposite

India is only country who is spending that much amount for election. I think if voters have strong feeling to vote a particular politician, they will vote at any cost to that politician only, so their is no need to spend that much amount to campaigning.

I feel that if the politicians really use these money in implimentation of their promises to public rather than just attracting people and campaignong and all other Faltu expenses to win.........They will win the elections as after all we are all human ,who has got a brain to think ,see and judge. So, we know spending money is not good in this period of recession but no one will hear our voice as they have enough money to spend.
Than why dont they change their views and serve at least in real sense to society 10% only ,than also they can reserve rest of their money. Why so much corruption and sucking the poor nation

i do agree with sachin on this issue that why do they need so much money for campaigning, if that money is used as Gargi has suggested will do wonders, so using so much money is a bad idea...one has to come up with some alternative for this campaigning....

spending so much money on elections for campaigning and other things is not at all right, all that money they can easily use for so many other purposes, they can help poor people with that money, and if they have really performed well and people think they should vote for them they will vote, i guess most of the money that they are spending on illegal activities during election.
