Technical education has expanded very fast in India recently, with the private colleges mushrooming everywhere. The question is, are their products useful to the industry and worthy of employment, particularly in view of the current recesion worldwide?

With the opening of New IITs, we are going to see a good bunch of schools alongwith NITs fullyfledged with all the oportunities to learn.

The rush for producing quantity over quality is hurting the output. Also the parents paying huge sums to get their children jump the merit queue is distorting the talent and inherent merit in the students. Overnite you cannot purchase IQ and add it to your empty boxes. Every student has passion for some subject/area but parents push them into a very few subject areas which creates "Uninterested student" wasting money, time, and life of that student.

Standards of technical education are pathetic to say the least. Most of the private engineering colleges do not impart quality education and are there for making quick money. Opening of new IITs will further dilute the current high standard of the IITs.

Status of Technical Education in India is not that bad and Common it depends on individual's interest and intelligence regarding how to Study and Understand the Subject!

Quality of education does not have a fixed barometer right now, I presume. Once the graduate enters an employment, he will be given specialized training to handle the work environment there. Graduation is 'ONLY' the passport to get the job and not anything else as of now. Hence, the technical education colleges have mushroomed.

To support my view, I can give umpteen number of evidences. You can see a number of chemical engineers working in software field, banks etc. where they are doing entirely different things than what they have learnt. You cant say that 'its bad' also, because it gives him a place in the society and earning for his well being.

Standard of education is good enough in these mushroom colleges also. The faculty positons are deffinitely filled by IITians and MTechians. They do trail and error methods like 'most likely questions, old question paper revisions etc.' by way of which students learn sincerely and get degrees also.
