Stem cells are the building blocks of the human body. They can split and grow into any sort of cell: liver, heart, skin, nerve cells and more but debates over the ethics of embryonic stem cell research continue to divide scientists, politicians and religious groups.

Is it right to restrict the funding for stem cell research, or should scientists be able to explore the opportunities it offers? Where, if anywhere, should the line be drawn?

What do you think? Let's debate over the "pros and cons" over Stem Cell Research...

Sudhir, very good topic for debate. I must say I am for stem cell research. I believe it will solve more problems than it will create. Next level of advancement in medical field will come from stem cell research. At the same time I will say that govement should lay down certain ethical guidelines for using human embryonic stem cells in research.

I feel Akhil, this is totally immoral thing because use of embryonic stem cells for reasearch involves the destruction of blastocysts formed from laboratory-fertilized human eggs. For those who believe that life begins at conception, the blastocyst is a human life and to destroy it is unacceptable.

I believe that stem cells are very useful and it should be promoted for the research purposes. one of its benefit is that, when stem cells are taken from one part of the patient and placed into another area, the body will not reject its own cells. Moreover the benefit of using adult stem cells is that there is no life being sacrificed for scientific purposes.

A patient who has damaged cartilage in the knee has a hope of regaining the tissue by indction of stem cells. I dont think there is any other way for that person to lead a normal life after 60 years. Instead of saying no remedy, we can always say , let us find it using stem cells research.

ITS ACTALLY A VERY VAGUE DEBATE. IT IS NOT RELEVANT TODAY, JUST A BIG HYPE HAS BEEN MADE. EMBROYS TO BE USEFULL FOR TREATEMENT IS ANOTHE 40 YRS ATLEAST

there are so many sources of nstem cells.

1. cord blood

2. cord lining(WHARTONS JELLY)

3. AMNIOTIC FLUID

4.  placental blood.

5. multipotent stem cells in the skin, eyes, liver, brains, perpheral blood.

6. and the best know source bone marrow.

7. new mtheods of extracting stem cells from BM is by giving a certain medication to the donor, which forces BM stem cells in the blood flow, the donor has to give his blood and a rich qty of stem cells are harvested form the blood. called a peripheral blood stem cells.

SO WHY KEEP TALKING AND JUMPING ABOUT EMROYNIC STEM CELLS.

THERAPY WITH ESC IS A VERY VERY DISTANT EVENT. LETS FOCUS AND USE WHATS EASILY AND READILY AVAILABLE TODAY.

It is not good because Embryonic Stem Cell research has several disadvantages like difficult to differentiate uniformly and homogeneously into a target tissue , Immunogenic—ES cells from a random embryo donor are likely to be rejected after transplantation, Tumorigenic—Capable of forming tumors or promoting tumor formation, and already mentioned - destruction of developing human life
