Put 2 MBAs or BEs, one from a premiere institution and the other from an ordinary one before the interview or even campus panel and judge, the answer will be self explanatory. On the other hand let me tell you my own success story.I am MBA from Birla Institute of Technology,Mesra. I got top Govt job and also HR Manager just due to my knowledge, commitment, performance before the interview board and track record till now. But it may not be with everyone. It may be my luck too.

This topic has no meaning. Just because Mr.X became rich and famous by selling peanuts, does not mean that everybody can become rich and famous by selling peanuts. You may or may not become rich by selling peanuts. There is no point in quoting the lives of successful people who never went to school because there are equivalent number of successful people who actually went to school. Those who do not have academic qualification will envy those who have it and vice versa...

The sum total of our existence in corporate world is directly related to our academic qualification. The tit bit of info received in our college days helps us to mould ourselves in the potentially dangerous, cut throat competitive world.success for us is not becoming Bill gates,APJ, NRM, Sir MV or cv Raman but earning a steady income and living with dignity by performing our duties towards parents, family, society and nation.

Academic qualifications are the first step in a candidate`s life and the recruiting companies also look at that for the first instant to realize and understand the person for a particular job or not. So,its the first steps and after that, the results will depend upon the individual`s performance.

we may come across various type of studies in academic qualification and also we belong to various field in profession.but our higher qualification is fully depends on book studies.very few members in our society had both theoretical and practical experience in their profession.because of their in-depth knowledge gained through their academic career .Even though we can attend language developing program mes and submitting seminars, but fluency in language or professional studies mainly fulfills and depends upon their academic background of a person.

Dear Hiren Sheth, Success in life depends on persons aims and goals. And regarding Academic qualification is a media to become literate then to get educate by oneself and to educate others.By the by Hiren Surely Bill Gates Read thousands of books which are written by academic passed out writers as well as he had spend his time with academic passout candidates in his life and will do till he die.So Academic qualification is a general platform for a common person to achive his success which he planned for him self.It may be relation, financial carrier oriented, possession of wealth and power etc.

In todays crowds of qualified as well as non-qualified people, we much have a parameters to assess the parameter judging the capability of people and qualification does exactly that. In its absence, it is simply illogical consider all drop outs to be of the calibre of bill gates and it is impractical to deal with millions of people to assess their level. Qualification does it for us. At the time, its oppossite is not true-Inspite of the above, I do nt want to say that all drops/non-qualified are below mark-They may be above mark it will take lot of efforts to find those above mark poeple and qualification makes it easy for us.

The definition of success differs from person to person and field to field. One could take economic success as a touchstone to label a person successful in life, ignoring his of her other failures, like divorce, health, inefficiency, etc. Others may look at a capacity for overcoming challenges, irrespective of what someone earns and the nature of their private life. So who is a successful person and who is a failure? Do school and college grades and examination results provide a way of predicting or ensuring future success? If that is true, then we should encourage as many young people as possible to go to university and work hard to gain formal qualifications. But is it true? Aren’t some college drop-outs like Bill Gates and Richard Branson hugely successful icons of success? And should we automatically consider the millions of young people who have not had the opportunity to gain academic certificates to be failures in life?
Pros: There may be a few people like Bill Gates and others who have made it, in spite of their drop-out background and lack of academic qualifications, but can this be generalized? Should I tell my child to leave schooling because if Bill Gates can do it they can also do it? A few exceptions cannot be taken as a general rule.
And even for those few high-profile people who have made it without academic qualifications, let’s ask a simple question - if you look at a global directory of successful people you might find a few hundred like Bill Gates, but what about those millions of doctors, engineers, IT professionals, lawyers, and advocates who rely upon their formal education? Can you run a country without them? And could even Bill Gates have prospered without the skills of these IT professionals and engineers?
Cons:
If you look into a directory of successful people who are doctors, engineers and IT professionals, then you will notice that many of them dream to be employed by people like Bill Gates or Richard Branson, who are prosperous despite not having college degrees. In other words, prosperity does not depend upon academic qualifications but upon opportunities provided by entrepreneurs who may not be necessarily be highly educated. Successful entrepreneurs even benefit from not having academic qualifications, because going to college and taking examinations forces people to learn and think like millions of other graduates. This actually makes it less likely that they will come up with the truly mould-breaking insights and “disruptive” ideas on which successful innovations and new business models are built.

Research shows that one attains a job 85% because of attitude and academic qualifiation only contributes 15%. Yes, academic qualification is necessary but it not the only thing.... it can make one literate but it is not necessary that it can make one educated.

Experience and Education from the "Real World" is much greater than what we get in Schools and college. Look at the people who has succeeded with out College education and even Schooling, starting from Thomas Edison. Academic is just a Platform, to expand your reality. Reality is out there, in the Streets!

I would like to prompt Konkan for his views about IITians...We have seen that its not necessary that IItians are the best nd knows everythin...They failed utterly in their aspiration to reduce traffic woes in delhi with BRT Corridor..Yes i do agree that not all students are not skillful but the problem is the basic education system of or country where people think that gettin into IITs and IIMs is the only thing which will give them success..

Please give a damn to Academic Qualification especially the India Education System. Tell a IIT graduate to build a bridge, he/she will do it however, if you ask the the same question to a graduate from a Private Engineering college and he/ she will be bamboozled and this is the difference of education India has.Indian education System is not uniform so, parents and children suffer a lot. Education in India is "Money" and if money is involved it is not Education, colleges are these days have become mint for big ministers and their patrons...:) Indian Education System really sucks big time...:)

See it certainly not ensures but then it is the base on which you start your career and the base should always be strong so that the construction over it should not collapse easily. There are certain requirements for when you appear for a competitive examination or you start a business and if you dont have that qualification how would you climb the success laddder.

I agree with Ms. Garhi, Academic Qualification is only an entry ticket. But, very much needed as by our regulation for Govt / Private Job. But, climbing the ladder is left with your skill, IQ, Leadership quality, Personal desire, etc. Not merely in ladder but to prosper, you need to use the skills very nicely.

Though i have voted for this the reality is different today. In the materialistic world of today experience is not valued at all. IT is mere degrees that companies are chasing after. The more you have in ur resume the more value they accord to u.

Academic qualification just increases the division in our society. It helps someone to segregate himself/herself from others which merely called success.

In todays world academic qualification has become a slandered to judge a person. If you take the case of Gurudev Rabindra nath Tagore who brought noble prize in India has no formal qualification. The use of grey matter in right prospective is probably the best qualification some body have.

I think we should re-phrase the statement here. It should read "academic qualification ALONE does not ensure success in life". Mere qualifications alone are like a having a key to open a door. You have to have the maturity, character, values, sensitivity, discretion (and many other things that one collects as one grows older!) to make life a success. For that matter one of anything will never ensure success. One needs a balanced collection of aspects to manage life and become successful.

How do you define success? Doing well financially? Helping others in life? Having many friends and relatives? Having attained a high level of realization? Having brought up a family and make their children good and (again successful?) citizens? Looking at so many angles of viewiing success, it is very clear that education may or may not play a part in being 'successful'. It definitely plays a part in employment and financial aspects, but there are so many other characteristics which are required to become successful professionally and financially. Bill Gates, Edison and others are very, very few exceptions to the general rule of a person becoming successful despite lack of education.

It is clear that academic qualifications alone cannot guarantee success in life. Otherwise , we would not have educated people working as bus conductors and hotel waiters , jobs which do not require such a high level of education. Success in life is dependent on so many factors ; education alone is never a guarantee. Having said that , in today's knowledge world , having academic qualifications is a help , provided one has acquired those qualifications through merit and hard work.
