This has go to do with the new book which has been released recently called "Superpower by Raghav Bahl". which is all about the amazing race between China's hare and India's tortoise.

Is India ready for superpower status? Or are we irretrievably behind in the game of catch-up with China? What are our key strengths and weaknesses, and what unique things do we have to contribute to the global community in the 21st century?

Can India make up the lost ground on china in this regard? Share your views on this...

I THINK INDIA NEEDS TO CHANGE ITSELF MANIFOLD IF ITWANTS TO BE AHEAD OF CHINA IN ANY WAY BECAUSE I MEAN LOOK AT CHINA HAVE WE EVER HEARD OF ANY MISCREANTS OR ANY SCAM BY TOP NOTCH POLITICAL LEADERS OF CHINA. THE ANSWER IS NO BUT WHAT ABOUT OUR COUNTRY . EACH AND EVERY LEADER OF THE CABINET IS CORRUPT. YES IT IS A BITTER TRUTH BUT THIS IS REALITY THE PROSPERITY OF OUR COUNTRY IS STACKED SAFELY IN THE FORM OF BLACK MONEY IN SWISS BANK AND THE CREDIT GOES TO OUR POLITICAL LEADERS WHO HAVE DONE A METICULOUS JOB IN MOVING THAT MONEY WHICH COULD HAVE EARNED BREAD FOR HUNGRY, WAGE FOR WORKER,A BLANKET FOR THE PERSON SLEEPING IN STARK COLD ON A FOOTPATH. BUT ALAS!! WE ARE DREAMING OF A DEVELOPED AND PROSPEROUS INDIA BUT HOW CAN WE ATTAIN PROSPERITY IF THE STANDARD OF LIVING OF THE PEOPLE IS IN SUCH A DELIPITATED STATE . SO WE SHOULD BETTER CONCENTRATE ON CHANGING THIS SCENERIO THEN COMPETING WITH CHINA.

I think India will make up lost ground on china , it is true that china is ahead of us but it is not a short race but a long one and in this race we are not far behind from china. If we want to win this we have to show our national character. As a country is always known by its people who represent it and who lives in it..........

We lost the plot because we started 20 years later and are playing catch up.

Both the nations rely on different sectors , India for an instance heavily rely on Service sector and China on manufacturing sector.

Slow down hits both these sector but manufacturing sector suffers the most an example for this was a plead from chinese govt to be patriotic and buy Home made products << this was during slow down.

Recently China has started making un-usual demands and have tuffen up norms for MNCs to enter into China , it is slowly and steadily going back into a shell because its main purpose for globalization which was to develop home grown industries has been achieved. This is a huge mistake as China may lose out on quality and tecchnology while on other hand we have just started globalization. Chinas makret will saturate 10 years down the line that is when Indias economic boom will hit china on the dragons tail. This happence to eacch and every country. Recent example to support this is devaluation of chinese currency because they couldn't sustain the effects of Slowdown

America's News Week says," Mr. Manmohan Sigh is Number one (No 1)among World leaders followed by Britain & France " . Can't you do anything with this? Adjudged by News week-America,Superman from India , is leading the World as well. No doubt, India will regain its superimacy. There is no second thought in it.

I think in the current situation China seems to be far ahead, but the scenario is changing and in future winner of the race with biggest stakes ever might not be determined by who is investing more and growing faster today, but by something slightly more intangible something like, who has superior innovation and more entrepreneurial savvy and is grappling with and expanding in the most intensely competitive conditions. And, at the end, it might come down to just one deciding factor like, can India fix its governance before China repairs its politics? If we have an answer for this then yes India can make up lost ground on china.

CHINA IS FAR AWAY FROM US IN ALL ASPECTS,IN SPITE OF CONSTRAINTS. THE FOREMOST REASON IS RIGHT PEOPLE AT THE TOP INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING THE COUNTRY AS A WHOLE AND NOT SELECT INDIVIDUALS. LIKE POPULATION,LOW ENGLISH LITERACY LEVEL THEY HAVE ADVANCED SO FAR AND LATEST REPORTS INDICATE THEY WILL EVEN OVERTAKE U.S.

Dear Sujatha,

India at best is growing in population counts or personal wealth of individuals and nowhere else. We lack discipline, direction, purpose and commitment at highest levels of policy making, regulation and governance.

Tell me where can one reach when heading the wrong way and stubbornly evading critics and course correctors and being stuck in a denial mode. So by the time we make up our mind to do something from anything, China may have already completed a couple of infrastructure projects.

Most Indians are self servicing at best thus the nation of individuals can only get anywhere near should China fail in maintaining their discipline.

Sadly, Sujata, China has gained so much momentum that I dont think We will ever catch up. Just look at the statistics. The Chinese are focused, disciplined, hardworking, and dedicated.... Almost everything we are not. Their scales of production, Foreign collaborations, rates of savings are simply overwhelming.

India is far behind in Infrastructure, demographic control, overcoming resource constraints, social responsibility, basic health care and many other features symbolic of a super power. As long as democracy is abused in this country it is very difficult to win the race (if we think we are in a race with China). Actually, India is in a race with itself in the sense that it needs to be free of corruption, bureaucracy, political misuse and many other factors that hamper it's growth. What we are seeing now is only temporary which one might mistakenly think as development and which ultimately can work to the detriment of it's own progress.

The approach of China if you see is entirely different. If India wants to overtake China really, No doubt it can be done. But if we see the present conditions both political and social chances appear to be nil.

Really  our country is suffering much because of the beaurocrats and politicians who are all working with a single agenda of self growth only.

Never bother about the land.the people and the country if we  are getting benefitted is the motto of majority of these people.

Hence I feel overtaking China is a dream only.
