With many automakers planning to launch eco-friendly vehicles for the domestic market, Tata Motors said on Tuesday that it is going to launch the electric version of the small car Indica in early 2011, but then they are still not sure if the electric vehicles (EVs) are the best option for the country. So people what do you think, will electric cars take over from the fuel cars? Are EVs the best option for the consumers?

Yes i think this will provide us an alternate and reduce our dependency on conventional fuels. i also agree will mr. kailash that there are some concern during long distance drive but there are huge  numbers of people who come in the category of city drives and if only that adopt these vehicles there will be balance between petrol/diesel vehicles and other alternate fuel vehicles. So i think this trend will be beneficial in point of view of environment & less dependency on conventional fuels.

Everyday we r seeing Reva the electric car electirfying our roads. As the fossil fuel is diminishing and  India is one of the larger buyers , we must look for alternatives. The options we r havin is the electric car. So the TATAs the renowned Indian car maker coming into the industry will only boost the industry and  the interest in the people. Also we may look fwd to a more greener Indian roads

Electric and other Hybrid technology based cars are the future if we are looking for a eco friendly vehicles. But the downside is - is the government supporting the manufacturers with these initiatives. Look at Reva manufactured out of India but they dont get a subsidy here but some of the European nations have preferred to give them a subsidy to make it commercially feasible option to buy. And also we are still manufacturing electricity by burning dirty fuels like coal so there should be a trade off - does the consumer needs to be clean or the government

Yes India should concentrate now more on greener vehicles and EVs are the best option for now as bio diesel is not a viable option as that conflicts with agricultural land use, so EVs are going to havppen soon, and in future we will see more EVs in days ahead to come.

when there is a deficiency in power supply and production in india, electric vehicles make no meaning. Europe lot of current produced by windmills so they have the luxury to use this type of vehicles but not in india.

already we are short of Power sources. If we are going to use electric cars then the electricity demand may further increase.

I have my doubts on this, whether Electric vehicles are the best option for consumers, as the single time charge gives one to travel less distance and the time taken again to recharge the battery is long, but for commuters who travel very less like, within the range will be popular with them, but then it poses difficulty if one has to go for a long distance travel, it will be something like car for city purpose where one travels within that range. Its really difficult to say how consumer adopts to these EVs that we will see in more numbers in the days ahead to come.
