Recently we saw Gmail and facebook getting integrated to your TV and how DTH players are coming up with this new idea,  and people also came with their opinion that it wouldn’t work as facebook and social networking in general was a personal activity while TV was for family viewing.

But now this is something the other way around. Now, internet players are adding TV to their services. Well Tata Tele which provides the Photon Plus USB card for mobile internet has now launched a new service in Photon TV. Photon TV is a service that allows its high speed Internet subscribers to watch live television channels on their laptops or PCs. This service is for new as well as existing subscribers who can avail of it by downloading an application.

tata-photon-tv

Photon TV offers a maximum of 40 channels for viewing for a monthly subscription fee.

Per channel – Rs 4 per month
For 10 Channels – Rs.29 per month
All 40 Channels – Rs.75 per month

Besides for these monthly subscription options subscribers who have the Photon Super Surf plan for Rs 1,500 a month can watch TV for up to 15 GB a month without any additional fee. The data transfer for 1 minute of TV viewing is 1.2 MB so at 15Gb one could technically view 160 hours of TV.

So what do you think guys, will this Photon TV from Tata tele find enough subscribers, in plain will this be successful?

I always support the ventures of TATA's, because of their standing in the business, their reputation and expertise. TATA's never gets flop, that is their history. You are all know that future is nothing but repitation of past history. On peruasal of their price list, I personally feel it will succeed in the Indian as well as International market, if marketed.

Though this initiative from tata looks really good one, but then I don't think they will find enough subscribers for this new photon TV, whereas a simple TV tuner card will work fine, and my nephew will easily make another connection from the cable wire and put it on the computer as well, where one can easily watch TV as well as enjoy the services of internet, kids these days, I should say they are really smart. And this photon TV will not do good mainly because the Tata photon+ speeds are not great enough to provide realtime bufferless streaming of TV content. I may be wrong here, but would like to see others comments as well.

Yes ... we trust Tatas .. we love them ... we rely their business professionalism and Business Ethics ( some may not know what is Ethics .. !! ). We equally like 2try what ever is new and latest. We may not move with our cable connected TV or Laptop.

May be Photon TV may get a good response for its mobility factor. Let us watch the developments.

one thing is for sure ,the push for higher internet speeds and better user experience is going to go up.Tata photon plus promises 3.1 mbps which is enough for real time tv streaming (no need to  mention HD content ) .This will be an added feather on the side of Tata which faces tough competition from reliance netconnect+ which offers the same service. The key thing here would be the service quality these providers provide.

The good thing resulting out of this i see is more innovation at the service level ,better services at cheaper prices .Now who wouldn't want that ?

I THINK YES COZ I U WILL HAVE A LOOK IN THE PLAN I MEAN THE SUBSCRIPTION CHARGES U WILL SEE ITS VERY AFFORDABLE AND REASONABEL...AS U TAKE THE EXAMPLE OF 75 RS FOR 40 CHANNELS ITS LOOK QUITE GOOD,,,,,,,

ibm ceo thought 10 PCs would be enough for world, at the launch of telephone, people thought who would like to talk to someone he can't see. When Mobiles were launched in india, everybody was skeptical of its market existence here. similarly Facebook, data cards and now TV on Data card.

my 2 cents ... there are enough people in India as well, who would be keen to use service like this. and you can expect many more providers coming in competition to same.

however, it ,ll take time to hold ground and deepen it,s roots, because a common home customer ,ll not know much about it, however ,ll hit the people a big time.

Well, I agree with Smitha Dalvi & Ramanatha. It’s good that always TATA comes with new things & technology with lot of interest and of course it will also run in the market. He was one among the top market holders. But in this scenario I don’t think so it will work out, coz there are lot of disadvantages such as already we are having TV Tuner for Desktop/Laptop, buffering problem, and it doesn’t support the bandwidth what it require to run TV….This are personal experience of USB Internet service.

I think it will be difficult for tata tele to get enough subscribers for this as Indian broadband and wireless speeds are really low and to watch something live on internet, the streaming of the video will take a lot of time and buffering all adds more woes here, though the plan looks ok but then one can get only 15gb of download that too at a cost of 1500 plan, so this will be more useful people who are on the go, but for people who want this photon tv through their internet is a disadvantage.
