Tata showed the way ... now other world car makers are following. Others are also launching such "small cars". What does it mean ? That they are the pioneer - world is ready to accept this fact. Being an Indian ... we may equally be proud. Only one person in India .. ( in WBengal ) thinks opposite. But ... she may not ignore Tatas alltogether - might ask Tatas participation in Rly projects. If, any way, there remains hurdles for Nano in India ( like ... good roads, congestation on roads, fuel scarcity and cost, people's earnings, donation to political parties etc etc ), this car is in great demand in other countries equally. India may export whole lot of Nano.

Right , but i feel ( dont know if we would come to it) , infrastructure and things will change as more or less with ULCC and LCC it becomes a necessity. Many will definitely love what they can afford and will come to stand up the necessity as demand. Being in a democratic country it is not impossible , though a slow process.

well ofcourse a boon, i appreciate people coming out with some negative concerns related to nano like pollution, traffic, parking etc.
let me explain it some how like this, look in the history looooong back, people didn't plan their future rather they adapted, if 5000 years of human civilization is getting along with the scientifc measures, and entire genome og homosapian is following that, then lets accpet this.
1." Need mentors adaptation" we often hear people talkign about natural imbalnce of our ecosystem, simultenously we do listen scientifc expeditions overcoming this imbalance, i mean man is taking care when ever its needed, and if there need develops for issues like, traffic, pollution those i am sure will be curbed.
2. "Diminishing social gap" our indian society if suffering several consequences of irelevent differences like religion, cast etc, unnoticingly one more gap which is most severe and dangerous to our sosical and economical growth is the gap of rich and poor, and car symbolises that affluency, there for nano will definitily reduce this gap, and will help people to stand together and confident.
3." Acumen ship to indain industries" we are considered as developing nation, which states we are behind soem developed nations, to elaborate that reflects our inability to produce first but here in case of nano, we are the first to produce car at this cost, therefor it will add to indian prestige of producing better and before

This is a novel concept, which will bridge a gap beteen two wheeler & car segment.
It will revolutionize both segments, and will force the players in both segments to think hard, innovate and do something different, if they have to be in reckoning in this competitive age. In long run, it will prove beneficial for industry as well as for customers.
This will also add as a export opportunity.
However one word is a caution. Simlutaneous to Nano revolution, problems of road traffic, inadequacy of infrastructure and enovironment pollution should be addressed.

The Nano is certainly a breakthrough in the automobile sector bringing the car within the reach of the common man. It was earlier tried by maruti also in 1984 when the peoples car was priced at Rs.40,000. However one should try to analyse as to how much power is required to transport 4 passengers. We see normal scooters and bikes with only 100 cc engines having a side car and 3 to 4 people easily commuting in the same. The performance of the vehecals also with this load comes to around 40 to 50 kmpl. which is not bad considering the cost and fuel consumption of the nano or any other small car for that matter. The emphasis should be on light weight body.aerodynamic design and minimum resistance to wind pressures. I am sure that with alloy wheels fiber glass body and the shape of a egg which has the strongest impact resistance on the nose the floor curved to give maximum lift a car can be designed with a 300cc engine max at a price of not more than Rs.50,000. It is possible only we have to apply ourselves. The problem with the Tata brand of cars is that they come out with a model which if it fails commercially or due to a faulty transmission the model is discontinued leaving the customer with a car with no resale value due to nonavailability of partsIs Ratan Tata listening.

As our workforce get younger (can afford car early in life), offices sprung up in suburb (thus requiring longer commute), fuel get dearer and less in availability (India inport a whole lot of it), It makes sense for a second people CAR to hit the market (post Maruti Suzuki) phenomenon.
Also it will help popularize, car ownership in the tier 2 cities.
Though in future if the phenonmenon, which looks like becoming a hit....they have to consider about alternate fuel technology also.

Having being part of Tata Group, I could be little biased in stating argument in favor Nano. The single more important achievement for Nano even without coming on streets is - it has put India Auto industry on Global map. One of my friends during his recent visit to US was surprised to hear an immigration officer saying - "So.. you come from Nano country". From business perspective, its a leap of faith to develop and design products which break price points by miles. Do we know Tatas are now rated as one of top 10 companies worldwide on Innovation. My heart goes out to those engineers (all of them Indians) who have spent days, months and years designing this product and now praying to see it come out of factory. The issues of poor / marginalized farmers are not specific to Singur - are we forgetting Vidarbha and many other villages where dirty politics only create noise but rarely solve any problems.

When everyone was giggling to see how TATA can venture in a passenger car project, it did it and has overswayed the competitors in southern states ;b;y INDICA One thing they should not forget is to maintain the price not like the old promise for maruthi Starting from 58 k to 2.3 lakhs

Well technologically, I feel Nano is a wonder car. No doubt it has redefined the way we look at small cars but the same time I am skeptical that the Nano will spawn a new debate about manufacturing methods, use of
materials, energy efficiency, transportation and traffic jams. What do you think...

if we could produce 10 lakhs vehicles per year and they could be sold in india. it would mean so much employement. the government would have to increase the infrastructure that it self would mean more employement. you would need more parking space that would mena more parking lots to be created that would mean more employment. you would need service centers that would means more employment. you would need more spare parts that woul dmean mor e factories and more employment. you would need more power and fuel that would mena more employment. it could make inter city business possible..it woul dmake intracity business possible.indians are very innovative when it comes to making the asset work optimistically..small vendors could carry goods say sixty to seventy km or upto 100km deliver it or sell it and come back. like many dairy people carry it on sccoters..many things would change when there is availability of affordable travel alternatives. it could create a huge economic miracle beyond our expectation. provided it is worth the quality. tata na no if is goes indica way would become na no na no.tata have definately not made a mark in the passenger vehicle segment.may bethey should have a team of people who are freshers and do not carry the legacy and mind set of a truck builder. they have made a huge hype and advertisement management on one lakh price tag..well it is minimum of 142000 for base model. at this price many second hand maruti 800 in perfect conditions would be available may be reconditioned maruti 800 and other model would be available at much cheaper rates..so it the quality of a new tata nano is a no match to a reconditioned maruti 800 or other models of cars they are available in plenty..then it is just a hype.. ultimately it would be the cost of travel and cost of maintainance and the quality in th elong run which would decide who is the winner..

totally agree with siddharth here, with the car being so cheap it is going to make traffic conditions in India much more worse, i have complete respect Mr. Ratan Tata as he is only person who is thinking of middle class people whenever he comesup with a product, making it available for them, but with Nano i guess there will be more traffic jams and no parking space at all, with most of the two wheelers now going for nano, then the time to travel for office from house will take very long hours, even though Nano was a great concept, but Infrastructure in India is not ready for something like this.......

The Nano is a mixed bag. It would be unfair to call it a bane. But at the same time one needs to be logical about it rather than just emotional about it being an Indian car. No doubt the Nano is a technological achievement for Tatas and India, and we can be proud of it. Yet, the consequences of introducing the Nano can not be ignored. At a time when traffic jams are going out of control, is it wise to introduce a car which even people riding two wheelers will purchase and use making traffic jams even worse? The reality is that we need to curb traffic. In fact, I would propose that cars be taxed more heavily so that less people buy cars. There is no other solution to the worsening traffic jams. Making more roads or widening them is not the solution. They can never keep pace with the increasing traffic, specially in metropolitan cities.

Well, when it's really prestigious for us to know that indegeneous development of nano yielded with as proud. I personally dont feel that low end car should hit Indian roads. The city like bangalore, mumbai, calcatta are already flooded with the pollution and cops can't control the traffic. By introducing the small size car with low price will increase the trend of buying more cars. The situation would finally end up with every family wil have morethan two scootors and one car bare minimum because of the price fall. There are other ways to think, i mean that these small size cars should be introduced in India with the regulations and should concentrate on the overseas business, by the way we would also proud being a part of it.

What revolution it will bring India still does not have a concrete solution to handle the traffic.
Add the Nanos and the roads will choke. At least now engineers will try to design newer/better car parking systems...

It will only benefit Tata's, we should not forget that this can aggravate our traffic jams and burden to our infrastructure which is in a poor state. Thereafter India has to spend lot on importing OIL. Almost 2-3 times what it does now. Their will be huge pent up in demand for petrol. And definitely Safety issues will crop up.
