Guru's( Teachers) are fragments of God through which knowledge flows from generation to generation. But in present scenario i feel sad to the way students are writing about teachers on FB.It is a heart burning issue. This is stupidity of students. They can write about their parents too. A degraded moral values of present generation.

Facebook is a informal site where people post all sorts of views and opinions. The students should have some privacy and should not be looked after by the teachers here also. In case, the teachers and students act like friends in the school (like some schools I know in Chennai) and share everything freely, it is not an issue if both of them mingle in Facebook also. But it is not the case in every school. Let the students have their privacy. And teachers preserve their dignity by not being friends with their students on FB.

Thanks Sheetal for the referral. This is the only site (Toostep) I have opted to be a part of. I am not a member of facebook or myspace or twitter simply because I find these networks invasive to a part of me I may not want unwarranted scrutiny. The whole world need not have daily updates on what and how I feel. Somewhere along the way we have lost the plot. This is what they say about the Teacher/student and boss/subordinate nexus: Be caring but never familiar, deal personally but without intimacy. Very good guidelines which lead to a wonderful ambience in the classroom and in the workplace.

I will go with what Sheetal says. "Students get to peak into the personal life of teacher . There are many things which students should not know about teacher. Teachers should understand this and maintain this distance. Teacher and student share a professional relationship which does not need to be social."

Why. I have just completed by graduation and facebook now proves to be a great way to connect to our teachers. Even during college days it would act a a reminder to submet our assignment (lazy students :) ) and also to keep us updated with schedule. It is also a great way to share information.

It is very important for the teachers to be in touch with students, if there is mutual understanding among them. A small misunderstanding will rupture the relationship. The forum should not be a medium to express anger on one another but should be there to appreciate each other's efforts. This will make them known to others for their good work and helps to increase their motivation level. While mails should be used to express the one's concern about the other provided that the mail is taken in a positive sense, but do not create an ego clash.

In my opinion whenever students have no problem with the activity of teachers till then NO need for teacher to stay away from student on facebook or somewhere else. But it is the responsibility of teacher's that they should take care the personal interference of Students.

Teachers have a moral duty. They have to be a role model and motivate the students to become disciplined citizens. They should boldly face the posts of students on social sites and put up convincing replies. The replies should be able to make the students realize their mistakes, correct and improve themselves without mud slinging, jeering, or making fun of or making cheap remarks on elders. The social sites should be a medium of education and social upliftment.

networking with students, I dont feel any harm. Mannerism/ethics should be followed in all relations & it becomes more important on social forums. I've taught at engg. college..& having so many students in my friend list. Once you start sharing thoughts & you get to know each other better, & who knows you'll be inspired to change the wrongs in your personality if any! Why is it always like that we dont want to listen anything bad about us! Listen & improve... be sporty.
