Its time to introspect and change the scenario very fast, otherwise, we are heading for another colonial era, the cronies within under the garb of democracy are destroying the very fabric of unity in diversity! We have already become a banana republic - States are showing scant respect for democratic principles wielding power to rule the roost!

India is a "banana republic" - I do not understand why everyone is having the idea that we are in the process of becoming a banana republic?

Completely agree with your Mr. Paul...that India is totally becoming banana republic, media is getting news before the government organizations, everything or anything happens in this country and nobody is held accountable, and that is the sole reason why the country is becoming like this....

The DOT, TRAI, CAG, power starved opposition parties, senseless media and irresponsible bureaucrats; all are trying their level best to kill the budding industry took off very well in spite o all these setbacks, only because of the relentless efforts of private industrialists in the country. Any ordinary Telecom technician knows spectrum is govt. property and its ownership shall remain with the government and that it is wrong to sell out wireless spectrum to private companies. But for most of the ones who screech in the media talk shows, their understanding of the issues in Telecom is like that of those blind men trying to imagine how an elephant looks like and fight each other to thrust their vision. Sure, DOT and TRAI had muddled up the whole Telecom polices right from the beginning. There can be no two opinion about that. However, anyone telling now about huge loss in not selling the 2G spectrum is like a prostitute turned daughter rebuking her poor mother about the money lost by the mother in not taking up the profession as she did. Those who had been in a public institution knows the efficacy and usefulness of most of the CAG reports. As it is CAG is nothing but a white elephant. It is high time it is made sensibly meaningful and pragmatic or wound up. Is it not strange that CAG never bothered to give its findings to DOT and get explanations on the points involved before making it final? How come the CAG report got leaked to the media in advance and being part of the government, the CAG's top guns called up a press conference to publicly indict the Central government with their version of views in a report that they are only supposed to place for consideration and decision of the parliament. And then the parliament got frozen for no sensible reason. These things can happen only in a banana republic.

I agree with Anindya. Telecom is one of the industries which is closer to being a perfectly competitive market structure, than any industry in the market. And though there are some glitches,(as my teacher used to say:no one is perfect) we cannot term the industry as a banana republic because of few recent news flashes.

If you are a user of a telecom product or service then you should not claim that India is a Banana Republic if you do so that means you are unfaithful to the industry on one hand you are using the facilities on the other criticizing the same. If you are serious about being in favor of the topic then please switch off your mobile or disconnect your landline/fax or broadband/narrowband and then claim in favor. It seems difficult na ? Well now you will agree there is difference in looking at the whole perspective as a user or as a decision maker who seem to be target of a big uproar of being corrupt (yet to be proven) and all go banana over that without having any proof in the court of law, how does it effect one's usage as a service user ? I am trying to give reasons which make me belief things as I see them maybe I am wrong.

It is funny to see people support by writing a single line which is not a statement for support, one should be reasonable enough to agree or disagree with the statement made. I firmly believe in one thing I learnt in my childhood "nothing but "change" is constant" so change has to take place today or tomorrow, now who will bell the cat, if those who think that India is a Banana Republic I ask please prove it by giving 3 examples and also reason why those can not be changed. You will see that all questions have answers and the issues can be addressed by someone if not you. Just for the sake of understanding we are the only nation in the world who have the FREEDOM of SPEECH and say/write whatever we THINK FIT, we do not reason the same, the day we start doing so we will solution to all issues be it corrupt people or practices or what ever.
