Terror Attacks again & again & again: Our country was once again paralysed......
More than 600 people have been killed and hundreds maimed and devastated in terror strikes in India in the last six years. Following is a chronology of the major terrorist attacks in the country:

* Assam, Oct 30, 2008: At least 45 killed (figure can change) and over 100 injured in 18 terror bombings across Assam.

* Imphal, Oct 21, 2008: 17 killed in a powerful blast near Manipur Police Commando complex.

* Kanpur, Oct 14, 2008: Eight people injured after bomb planted on a rented bicycle went off Colonelganj market.

* Malegaon, Maharashtra, Sep 29, 2008: Five people died after a bomb kept in a motorbike went off in a crowded market.

* Modasa, Gujarat, Sep 29 2008: One killed and several injured after a low-intensity bomb kept on a motorcycle went off near a mosque.

* New Delhi, Sep 27, 2008: Three people killed after a crude bomb was thrown in a busy market in Mehrauli.

* New Delhi, Sep 13, 2008: 26 people killed in six blasts across the city.

* Ahmedabad, July 26, 2008: 57 people killed after 20-odd synchronised bombs went off within less than two hours.

* Bangalore, July 25, 2008: One person killed in a low-intensity bomb explosion.

* Jaipur, May 13, 2008: 68 people killed in serial bombings.

* Hyderabad, Aug 25, 2007: 42 people killed in two blasts, at a popular eatery and a public park.

Terrorist have managed to kill some of our finest officers in NSG and other Indian forces. It is a big loss to the nation. These officers lost their lives in the process of protecting civilians who continue to be a soft target for terrorists any time anywhere. These sacrifices should not go in vain. Population was a problem before but now in this moment of crisis it can be India's biggest weapon. In our population of 1 billion even if 50% contribute it becomes a strong force. India needed a new political system that either understands this new breed of people or cares to understand. Out of something bad, something good must emerge and who knows, maybe something good will emerge out of this. It is the media that can make a difference now. If all media giants would take the lead and write a letter to all political parties, asking them to make a commitment that henceforth they will not give a ticket to criminals. And if political parties responded to such a letter, then the people ought to know, but if they didn't, then media houses must ask people not to vote for such people.....what you say guys !!!

I think, to completely eradicate such activities of terrorism from India is not a simple task. We should not start complaining the Govt, politicians, police etc. Ours is a multi religeous, multy ethinic, multi colored nation. It makes most difficult to recoglize the nationality of a person from his facial appearance. So the solution lies in being vigil, beware all the time. Only time will decide when these problems will be resolved, till that time just bear the situation and face it. We are all in the same boat.

India is no more safer due to Corruption/non accountability of bureaucracy/Politicians.

I had recieved SMS from MD of MNC the very same day Mumbai was attacked expressing distrust in our Politicial system and I completly share his views. we can change this mindset questioning their high handedness in media/Courts/Forums like these and make them more accountable.

we as citizens of this nation have same rights/privileges as them and its our mindset of accepting without questioning system that has created such insecurity now.

There are exceptions but general feeling is that this system needs fresh blood, uncorrupted, with ideas brimming and energy to perform .

Mr. Manohar Mattu so you too think that INDIA is no more a safer place right ?? As you have already told that eradicating such terror activity is not a easy task. I too agree with you and now the situation has worsen.

I agree to Mr.Manohar's comment about eradicating activities of terrorism from India is not a simple task. But with the terror attack in Mumbai what was a great shock for whole of INDIA. First a series of bomb blast in various cities of India then this Mumbai attack, All made India a no safer place to live.

What will happen to the the Asian games  which is going to be held in 2010 in INDIA ?

I guess because of these terror attacks, the number of players taking part in 2010 Asian games will reduce becuase they may fear of terror. What do you say... You agree with me??

The IPL Season 2 have proved that INDIA is no more a safer place even for a cricket tournament. IPL being INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE 2009 is being hosted in South Africa. I don't think its because of the General Elections but because of the fear that exist among the cricket players around the world.

" IPL 2009 dates are out. Click here for the schedule of IPL 2009 which is going to take place in South Africa. "

Gr8 idea but wishful.we need 2 build coopertion and healthy relation with our neighbours than being diabolic.more so its d responsibility of every citizen to build a healthy, undivided nation by not electing parasites like gandhis, abdullahs, advanis, gowda's,kalyans, mayavatis, lalus, mulayams, karunanidhis, pawars, thakrays, jayalalita, religious heads who have harmed india , more than the terrorists and the medival or imperial rulers.

every citizen must be educated, patriot, uncorrupt then no one can dare to take us for ride or granted.

The recent apology from PM to the nation and the confessions of Home minister on the  failure of intelligence agencies indicate that our country is still not a safe place. While we are proud of our NSG heroes, a lot has to be done. Our country is vast and we need a large force of fully trained commandoes to cater to the needs of all states. It needs lot of time and political will. One thing is very clear. Our country is not new to terrorist attacks. For the last 15 years the attacls have been taking place. Then what are the lessons learnt and what sort of control we could exercise over the activities from a tiny neighbouring country which is the epicentre of international terrorism?

India is not at all a safe place now. Here there is no value of "Individual". Any one can come & destroy us. Visa system for outsiders is poor. No control of Government. Politicians are sleeping. & I think main cause for such type of disasters are illiteracy, over population, corruption, hypocrisy.

Recently, there are more attacks in India and it is throughout the country.    The attacks are having more impact and it is terrorising the people.   We are not sure whether we will return home without facing any security problem in all the cities. Now, we are facing serious problem with our security agencies.    Our security agencies have to be geared up and they have to establish that India is a safe country.    If the same continues, we will be losing more investments in India and we will be losing more people.   Government should take more steps to restore the normalcy in India.    All political parties should unite to oppose terrorism and they should work together to fight against terrorism.

India was never a safe place to live. We have been facing terrorism since ages. The British attacked us, the Moghuls attacked us. In fact, it is the only obstacle to a better, prosperous India. We are concentrating only on our economy and not on national security. We think that the rest of the world is like us, liberal and progressive. But it is not. They are still in the war-mode. Our neighboring countries are still living in the 18th century. Our mechanisms like CBI, intelligence agencies , police force are outdated. But we don't learn from our mistakes and the rest of the world also does not help us in this regard. Terrorism is a world-wide issue and needs to be treated at the international level. The first thing Barrack Obama should address is global terrorism. Countries like the Gulf, Persia, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc where Osama, LeT, JeM etc thrive should be attacked by all first world countries with the help of developing nations. Countries like America always deny the involvement of certain countries in terrorism, maybe because they are too scared to face them. But with world support terrorist outfits can be wiped out. According to the interviews of Pak nationals, they claim that certain militant groups are operating without their support. Then they should openly let the world know about such groups so that they can be wiped out. Why are Pakis supporting them?

I agree with you sudeep, when will the government say 'enough is enough'? There has been a complete disrespect for loss of innocent life's in such terrorist attacks for all these years and government efforts seems lackluster. Govt is more concerned about economy rather than security of its citizens who actually runs the economy. We need a change in govt, as well as people attitude to get this country more secure. We need more realistic spending of defense budget on intelligence databases / systems / personnels rather then acquiring more fighters / submarines / tanks. We need partnership and co-ordination among public/private telecos to help intelligence bureau + international co-ordination is the key. As a citizens, we need to be more alert and informed and help officials to defuse such attacks.....

Yes we should change ourselves to influence our govt. The common men and women of this nation need to stand up and do their bit to put pressure on our political class to take action whether it be through peaceful marches, sending in signed petitions to local reps, expressing their views through the print and electronic media etc. Without action on our part the politicians will continue to act with the same callousness which has made carrying out terrorist attacks a joke in this country. They only respond to votes and once they feel the votes will go away from them unless they act to solve the problems India faces they will move to take action. United we can stand up to our political class divided we fail.....

The only way we can fight terror is by destroying it! catch it by the jugular and kill it. An eye for an eye, tooth for tooth: These evil killers should be shot at sight no trial no prison just kill them, and of course their source is PAK so go into PAK n destroy all the bases n training camps, capture their leaders n hang them. No mercy should be shown to those who attack innocent and bomb from a hiding, they are cowards and in a nation like ours where martyrs die without reason they should not be let go. This can be done only if we have a leader who has a back bone and is a man not some soft hearted guy or someone who fears war !!!

This has gone on for too long. Its time to put an end to it. India is today a country facing more deaths due to to terrorism next only after Iraq. And what are we doing about it, nothing. Where are we heading to? Really the innocent people who lost there valuable life is not actually the victim of terrorism, ultimately they've become victim of the cheap politics by the politicians around the country. Being secure is much more vital than being a super power......

The Govts in India unable to curb terrorism due to this the innocent gullible public are put into hardships, many families lost their direction and wealth. The terror victims should be treated as war victims and should their families to be taken care of by the Government. It is shame for our country, with a stronger military we could not conrol terrorism. Our ministers and leaders were working overtime to prove whether terrorism is Hindu or Muslim etc., and the terrorists were busy planning their activities and unlike our leaders and politicians who always fail the terrorists always succeed in their activity. It is high time that we declare zero tolerance to terrorism and create separate cell to deal with terrorism independent of political control may be under the control of judiciary and eminent and patriotic personalities of the country. In any case there will be no success unless the authority to deal with terrorism is separated form our political set up.

Instead of coming to a premature conclusion through the happenings, it will be wise to think how the future generation could avoid and control such incidents and to make everyone feel that India is a safer place to live. The government should consist of the leaders who wish to serve the nation not their party. We have to jointly take the effort to bring the group of people who wish to serve the nation and wish to work towards the advancement of the nation.

No place is safe in the world today. These are isolated events. We shouldnt jump to conclusions and brand the country as unsafe.

Let us be patient and unite. Remember the old saying "unity in diversity"

Now is the time to apply all this and work toward peace. We as indians are easily divisible like in history how invading kings used a simple ploy to divide us and rule.

Lets not repeat the same mistake again

In my opinion we should be more cautious while drawing some conclusion. Our conclusions may help the agenda of these terrorist outfits. The objective of killing innocent people is to terrorize you and me and hamper the normal course of business. In fact we must learn a lesson from Israel and should not allow these terrorist attacks to affect our business plans. I would like to add one more point here I understand such attacks force you to rethink about your security but at least let us avoid highlighting it to the extent that people feel unsafe.

HI All

It’s true that we are facing many attacks but that doesn’t mean India is not safe...

India is a country who was under Britisher’s for a very long time et that time we were able to chase them out of our country although et that time we were not having powers. Today we have everything in each n every aspect......

We can fight against terrorism and we will definitely make our India a a nice and safe place.  We just need time and lil more courage.

India will again become "SONE KI CHIDIYA"

The terror is available everywhere. India is not the only country suffering from those terrorist attacks. Will that make India unsafe? The answer is negative for sure. Those fanatic actions are publicly condemned by everyone. What is needed is to translate the condemnation into effective meaningful actions.
I think that the best way of improving the situation is to improve the vigilance of the Indians themselves. Israel gives a prominent example of vigilant countries where almost all Israeli citizens are patriotic vigilantes. They are volunteering their information and efforts to the official intelligence agency for the sake of protecting their country.
We hope that India will be a safe heaven for its citizens as well as its tourists.

MAY BE WE HAVE STILL NOT LOST EVERYTHING.

How about building a wall with good height and width around the complete periphery of the India-Pakistan border like the one built by China. There is strong need to build Navy bases around the Sea border as where done during the ancient kings. May be a strong patrolling guard towers might do the work in the sea. This was we might be protected at least from penetration by terrorist. The expense of wall and guard towers will be meagre as compared to other instruments India might buy for security. This blog is small to describe about how this thing can be thought for execution. But using all the thinking power we have we can actually Isolate India from external affairs. And then concentrate on internal affairs (internal extremism).

No, I think its not correct to say that India is not a safer place to live. Its very unfortunate event, but, I don't think that the eradication is possible. We can reduce this if security is made tight. Terrorism is everywhere in the world in one way or other. But, in India we have many languages, communities, religions, beliefs, sects etc. etc., but, we all live amicably and its the strength of ours. No one can shake our fundamental belief in piece and tolerance. We have many problems and the recent terror attack is just one among them. Its all common and I do agree that with strong political will and leadership and with all the political parties and politicians act above the usual politics, we can combat this. I think with only tightening security, the prevention or reduction of terrorism is no possible. We all must work towards unity and by putting the nations interest on high pedestial.

Hi there,

Yes, I truely agree with ur comments but wht I feel is there is something lacking in security systems (the people who r paid for their job in i. Police, guards, RTO officers).

For example: I saw Railway Police seating on bench on the Railway bridges (reading newspapers and all). They dont even bother if there is anyone looks suspicious. They dont even check anyone and so many people goes on (this might be the reason for this bomb blasts in Railways). In this situation an ordinary person cant tress whos bag is loaded with bombs because everyone who travels in train is in hurry to reach home or somewhere he/she desires to.

Sometimes I saw their (Railway Police) behaviour with innocent people is too rude. They asked them so many nonsense questions (e.g. Who r u, where r u going?, whts in ur bag, show me now.) though the person is just walking with a little plastic bag with a newspaper only.

I saw on checknakas while travellign with friends from Mumbai to Pune that there is no enough people with guns. if a car come with 7-8 of people (terrorists) with guns and something more hazardious things (like bombs) then these 3-4 security guards can't handle the situation. There are no security systems available by which they can tress whts in the car. Its there duty to check the cars moving on and off (its too much time consuming but needs to be done for security reason).

There must be some responsibility in these people while they do their jobs. They must have some training for how to tackle such situations, they must have everything by which they can save themselves and then only can handle the situation.

BUT THIS CAN BE DONE ONLY IF EVERYONE FEELS IT FROM THEIR HEART THAT I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS THEN I SHOULD DO IT PERFECTLY.

:)

The organized terrorism always involve the system where it is being organized and always enter to the territory by corrupting the key members of the system of the territory.

Needless to say the target of the organized terrorism is the base of the system i.e., the people to stimulate them either to change the existing system or accept the authority of the terrorists as well as to deteriorate /obstruct the functioning of existing system thereby capturing the beneficial part of the system viz. business sector, land, economy, natural resources etc. with the willingness to run the system in their own way.

Here only revolution in form of awareness, loyalty at macro level and sence of self responsibility can replace and diminish the terrorism at the route level because the ingredient responsible persons of the system i.e., the politicians and bureacrats are first get corrupted by terrorists to implement their plan of terrorist activities.

So what we need at this very sensitive point of time is the "LEADERS" like our freedom fighters and like sardar patelji, Indira Gandhiji, Rajiv Gandhi ji with strong willingness to use the ingredient parts of the system in such a suitable way that our ancestors have utilized to get freedom, to accumulate for the India Republic, to eradicate the Punjab state terrorism, to diminish the bad willingness of LITTE terrorism etc....

Go to any part on the earth you will find the terrorist attacks. If a person decides to kill himself no amount of security can stop him. As a human being we cannot stop the inevitable.

India isn't exactly unsafe. It can happen to any country. But it is true we need a more equipped security system. Perhaps the government should be more serious about training its security services. We can't expect our ATS chiefs to counter sophisticated terrorist attacks with revolvers!

Dear

Saying that India is no more safer place is not a right attitude. Bcz the terrorists are Indians only. And there is no machine who can find out that this general looking face is terrorist. We have to understand. Govt is the system and it is really not easy to cover the whole country. And we have to understand as per our population which we r increasing happily on daily basis and in thousands how can some look after for each.

When u r on busy road, u even have no remember that anything could happen and which face is hiding terror u dont know. The solution is we Indians have to be changed ourselves, our way of living and thinking. Then after that if we r surviving then we can say that India is no safe anymore.

I feel we need to blame ourself first. We can make our country a safer place to live but we need to root out this anti-Indians from our soil first. It's an alarming fact that a wide network of terrorists are established from Kashmir to Kerala. We need to come up with a solution to crack the terror, talking peace is not an option now:
  • First flush out the PAK and Bangla migrants. Monitor all the religious leaders and activities.
  • Target the top brass of ISI, Bangla groups and other terrorist organizations for assassination. This is self defense.
  • Cut the source of funds. This is the most difficult but we could follow the US's lead. Its enough to disrupt the money trail, its not necessary to eliminate it.
