We all know that power demand is rising day by day and the supply is not able to cope up with the rate

of rise of demand.

there remains only two alternative

1 - nuclear power plant

or

2 - renewable source of energy(wind solar,water)

both have their pros and cons...

what do u suggest is the better option

NUCLEAR Power Plant can only solve the huge power demand Vs RENEWABLE ENERGY POWER PLANT IS the solution of future..

Yes Vishwajit.. Nuclear Power Plant is the answer.. We should use renewable sources of energy but well.. we can't rely on them because of the difficulty in production and unavailability of the proper resources.. Till proper R&D is done in that regard.. let us stick to NPP...

Yes. NPP plays an edge for supply of energy to giant industrial requirements. But, the safety standard requirements to be maintained is very high. Emergency preparedness is also required to be at high alert.

But ,if you increase the renewal energy consumption level high , (mean to say domestic & small industrial consumption), it automatically, relax your hydro , thermal power . That's to say, it saves your hydro/thermal power made available to public. Comparatively, it is economical & eco-friendly, comparing to NPP where international pressures & safety constraints are high.

I would be very cautious in saying that only Nuclear Power Plant can solve India's power problems. There are all sort of NIMBY attitude people have for nuclear plants. For sure, these plants have high potential for environmental disaster in case any thing goes wrong but on the other hand our experience has demonstrated them to be the safest in terms of incidents/hours of operation. But there is no denying that they generate cleanest power, which we need in the world. Renewable Energy sounds good and shows promises but when we start doing the life cycle analysis and thing about others issues like reliability, power output etc. they aren't very far in terms of environmental challenges. Some of the issues of wind farms are being studied, one example is the change in long term pattern of land, water and climate where wind farms are installed. Wind farms alter the wind pattern by slowing down the wind speed in the downwind area (this whole issue needs a full article).

My opinion is that what India need is all sorts of options starting from EE to renewable to large scale Nuclear plants. Considering the power India needs in coming years, large scale plants are necessay and with the population and pollution issue, Nuclear makes more sense.

i think only NPP(NUclear power plant) can solve this power crisis, i know there are various radiation hazards and enviromeental issues concerning NPP, but u cant do away without NPP.

RENEWABLE ENERGY POWER PLANT(WIND,WATER SOLAR) is GREEN AND CLEAN

BUT it cant cope up with the excessive demand.

Hey,

I am arguing that NPP is not versatile for bigger Industries. What I am driving at is that, in a Country like India where we have long coastline, the tidal energy & desert like Dhar in Rajasthan,Gujarat, the Solar energy can be harnessed & utilized enmass. Reliability depends on the Monsoon predictability.

In UAE, a total town is developed with with Solar Energy only. You can say an experimental town. So, when so much of natural resources are available with us, why do not we think of these alternative energy. This avoids running after Australia/France for uranium or thorium etc.
