Mr. Viktor, I am sorry for the wrong name that I had mentioned. Now the debate. My only contention is that we follow the might. In the whole of the argument please see only the core of it not superficially. I had tried only to drive home the point which I have said. If you think I have digressed from the topic of debate than I think you taking the arguments superficially. Please try to see beyond it.

Mr. Victor, With all due respect to your ideas I still go with what I have said. Yes India is my country. We have to set some or I should say many things right. As far as 'might is right' is concerned my argument is why eveyone is following the US type of business policy. Why nobody is reading between the lines. Nobody argues the US action in Afghanistan or for that matter in Iraq. Likewise there are several issues you will also find that nobody argues their reliability. If some powerful business giant or powerful nation or powerful perrson for that matter says something than it is taken as rule. And nobody argues it. It is what it is only 'Jiski lathi uski bhains', though in a different mode or way. The crudeness might have gone. But at the core of it the notion remains. Mr. Viktor with all due respect to you I don't want an agument with you. Please keep thinking the way your are but let me have my views.

You are right when you are showing us the not so good picture of our country. But might is right as they say. It is the numbers that call the shots and is a thumb rule. Though it might not give us full comfort but we can atleast rely on them for the time being. Our focus should remain in encountring the real problem. That is poverty. If we are able to instill values than the subsidy percolation will increase drastically. Here the values that I am talking about are patriotism.

This is a very large resource. I suggest we select this as one of the topics in the TooStep meet. We can arrive at a specific long term program there. This will get us large publicity even in international media. This could also be an attraction for a sponsor. Specific programs for youth can be included.

India has been a country which has encountered and battled its way through so many problems. Population is another issue which the government and we citzens will handle it our way; however it does not mean it is threat. It has been a problem for so long and we are fighting it out. Moreover the population of youth can be a stepping stone in bringing new avenues of growth.

India has progressed well in past few years and we should continue doing same with small modification as need of time. We are the largest democratic country and recent formation of Parliament shows clearly the unity in diversity and presence of young generation for ruling of country. We should take points from HDI Index but should not depend on such Indexes. India does have very strong points in terms of Values and culture. We should not destroy them by comparing with indexes and get into Rate race. Income distribution problem will always be there. People flow take place where there is good income and due to this there is scarcity of people working for niche. Which increases the income there too. Today in developed countries there is flow of people from underdeveloped countries. Do they include them while calculating HDI index? Literacy will grow as it has shown its advantages. Some class will remain illiterate not because Government does not provide enough facility but due to their lazy mentality. Food distribution is quite OK. We have many private organisations who distribute food for poor at no cost. Problem is people don’t get enough work. Alsothey lose out due to our spending hobbits. Spending on marriages, cultural functions should be limited if you don’t have funds. Most of times private loans are taken for such things and then get washed away in debts. Healthcare is big question. How will you keep yourself healthy? We have very good system of yoga by which you can keep yourself healthy. I have seen cases of people doing yoga after big health problem and they are able to keep them self fit for years. HDI index talks of fitness equipment and medical equipments produce by developed countries. These equipment and facilities will add wealth in developed countries, draining it from under developed and developing countries. Question is at last how much you should pamper your body? More you pamper more troubles. Use it or lose it principle applies here. We should retain our yoga for health and encourage using it for keeping good health. Second part is,we have hospitals in villages they are started in big way. Equipments are sold to them. After this initial draining out of money hardly any one maintains it. Poor class of medical equipments without proper control of regulation adds up into further problems. We have rules but no imposition like FDA. If this imposition is done strictly like US, Japan, China etc. will definitely improve it. Health insurance is required but to what extend we should support this third parties when they make rules to improve their, doctors and equipment manufacturers profitability. Infrastructure we need to produce more electricity with increasing demand of new equipments but Air ports? Who gets benefitted with this? Our rail and road is improving and we should continue with the same. Last but least, we should continue our efforts way we are doing today. We may not be highly ranked by HDI but our country will be best place to live peacefully.

Mr. Aditya Sharma, India is my country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right. In today's world 'might is not always right'. 'jiski ladhi uske bhans' ab nahi chalta.

Country like India, having much of young population, is obviously a performing asset to the country.Under such situation, the Govt. should be properly implement the policies to expedite the much from these younger generation which would help in developing our country at a better level. More steps had to be taken in the Healthcare,Literacy till the roots of rural areas of our country.

Bravo... burst crackers, distribute sweets... we are the future, long live the govt. We Indians love to live in the world of illusion. Our govt. did nothing in the past for common people, they created jobs for particular community or class or for their netas community. I am not blaming the govt. that they should do all the work for the people, its also are duty to do something for the society but I think common/middle class society people has generated their owen income without the govt. help by doing all kinds of reasonable jobs. The so called non communal party for the majority of its tenure and with full support only generated dreams for the people like jobs of every one, gariby hato, no religion bias, literacy, food, housing, etc. etc. We are a young society which means extra earnings, new ideas, better life style... But all this have been only possible if govt. has done something and had reduced the gap between rich and poor. If we do not control population, unemployment, poverty, goons culture etc. then this young force or young society will fall. Instead of having young ceo, antrepenuer, social worker... we will have criminals which will eat up the society.

Dear Fazlur, Thanks for the objectivity. I am unable to put a finger on the numbers. Hence I decided to float this a s a point of debate so that some of our illustriuos members can help. Be that as it may, the problem is real. Look at the increasing crime rate in the Metro cities. This is one of the examples. Empowerment of the masses - in my view, Primary Education is the starting point. Moral Education has to become part of the curriculum. When it comes to Human Values, there is nothing like Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christian values. Hunger and malnutrition are again real. We dont need numbers to prove it. Where there is little room for eking out a decent living, the Government must step in and spend on infrastructure such as storm water drains, desilting, creation of artificial ponds that can capture rain water and increase water table levels, etc., Although enshrined as fundamental rights in the Constitution, it is time Primary Healthcare, Primary Education, meals for children, School Uniforms, books and notebooks are supplied free of cost. Ensuring proper end use of funds can be entrusted to a watchdog mechanism built on public-private partnership. We must begin somewhere. The Government can step up a Visison India 2020 Action Committee under the Chairmanship of Dr. Kalam with FICCI, NASSCOM, CII and large NGO with a credible track record as members. Since the commitment, personal value system, contribution to the Nation, intellect and thought leadership of the Chairman are alreay established beyond doubt, the Committee can be vested with Executive powers.

Hi, The concern raised are perfectly all right. This all we know since last many year. Let me tell you that chage comes from the Attitude of the nationals. No goverment, No Law, No Control etc can bring the change. Changing the attitude is a long drawn process. I think if we all start contributing in our area without cursing the system then also we can see some change. To my mind we should spend some time for development of the society and environment. JUST THINK. Regards Praveen varma 9324289504

Dear friends what i feel that population control is an area where India had failed misreably. This is because poor and illeterate people had intentionally gone for a big family thinking the bigger is my family the bigger are my working hands. So this has resulted in a huge population , no wonder why our 5 years plans have failed to deliver the desired results. Because all projections on manpower growth rate had failed. Now here is this quality issue arising out of this and it would be a serious threath if it is not addressed right now.

Victor stated the state of our economy very precisely. Our economy is not designed for any rational individual to acquire welfare. The return one generates is poor on everything one does to basic transactions and investments. The money looses purchasing power every now and then. Whatever one makes gets eroded in value in no time. It is called Fabian Socialism, Nehru's vision for India where it is turning out to be like a 'blind man's bluff' and bline men leading blind people. Of course there is progress but only at snails pace and since we haven't seen it all probably we enjoy even something we are not aware off.

Surely, HDI is the first thing every 3rd world country should focus on. We have the facilities in a randomly scattered manner, and the quality of that is not bringing the desired results. As Viktor said, we need to address this as top priority. Today not much attention is paid with the fear that the vote banks may melt. But what these elders are not able to visualise is that the effects of ignoring or neglecting or deliberately slowing the growth of HDI, will generate somany side effects and that itself can pose a problem of highest magnitude than any other socio economic problems we have at hand. So what one can do as individuals is to educate or provide for education for just 2 people per head from the educated groups like us, in all respects - such as litrecy, hygene, human rights and the power of awareness. It may not be a certification program, just bring the required exposure, inculcate the need for it and if possible create conditions for those selected 2 persons to attain the required HDI. Tough job though. People like Gandhi and other forefathers struggled and gave us this nation. Now we have to struggle and take this a bit forward so that our next generation would also talk about us the way we are talking about our forefathers. Secondly, we must discourage those movies, which depict hero as averse to all this. And we must use the movies and other mediums also to slowly bring this awareness. Finally, every big corporate or a rich individual should be asked to adopt a colony, village or bigger place only with the focus to improve HDI. Great debate Murali, and an eye opener to a lot of people. This could be Vision 2020 for all of us.

A pretty debatable issue has been raise d by Mr Murali. Its a matter of fact that the number shows some positive sign to some extent. But, if it is not taken care of by the Govt., then it will turn in to a HUMEN BOMB sonner or later, becoming the greatest challenge ever faced, for the Govt. Govt. have to take necessary steps as soon a spossible to direct this young population in a better way so that they can contribute for the overall development of India and make it as a superpower as is dreamed by every Indian.

100% TRUE - WITHOUT ADDRESSING HDI, IT IS A THREAT - this is how violent naxalism and maoism has gained a trend in India. 40 crore people sleep hungry earn less than Rs. 40 a day. The dissatisfied young population can give discomfort and sleepless nights to the nation if HDI is not improved as a whole. www.pharmaceuticalshealthcare.blogspot.com

This is a very good question asked by Mr.Murali.Although all of us feel proud to be living in such a young idea but we never gave thought to this aspect raised by Mr.Murali. Very True..It would be very logical if we assume that most of the young generation of our country belongs to rural sector who are under priviliged, have low literacy rate and not have even sufficient amenities to satisfy them.......So how can we boast of taking our country to the next level without addressing this issue of hunger, illiteracy among younger generation...... This is really a big question mark in the future development of the country!!!!

i agree with Viktor here, event though India is very young at the momet interms of people aged in between 20-30 are touching nearly 60% in the country, but in India all of the 60% do not belong to most of the youngsters come from poor families and are very less privileged in terms of basic amneties for them, only 10% may be from middle class and upper class of people, so and these numbers as seen is not headed in right direction, there are not enough opportunities created for these youngsters, and are very vulnerable for bad things for money, so Government should help them, so that every youngster is contributing for the development of the country and the young population is shown the right way...
