1)      Despite the huge growth potential, the crumbling Airport infrastructure might make things worse as passenger and air cargo traffic surge.

2)      Airport modernization has been given a time frame of 3-5 years, it will be some time before results are felt.

3)      India needs to be tied in to the rest of the world to progress like in IT and for that, needs decent international airports.

4)      Due to increase in oil prices there has been an increase in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) it has become difficult for domestic airlines to operate and survive.

5)      IATA has to be reshaped in the present global scenario.

6)      Operational problems and cause of delay in flights.

Very true Ismail......

There is an impressive growth in Airlines till date but still we lack some basic things & definitely we should learn from US international Airlines on their process & functioning. Issues like flight information on arrivals, departures and delays, need to be resolved quickly. Our government and major airlines should coordinate better among themselves & discuss other issues like fare structures, aviation infrastructure and taxes, especially those levied on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) & should come out with a win win solution. Recently, I was amazed to see how Chicago O'Hare airport was functioning which is the busiest airport in the world. It was able to reduce congestion with innovative design efforts & modernization program for their terminals.....

while its true that lots needs to be done by IATA, I feel the things are moving in right direction. I think rising oil prices and global economic turbulence are making things difficult for the airline industries. However, like Prof. has rightly pointed out there is lot that IATA can do to make things better.
