In this context, I would say, in current scenario, after a hectic life style, every one want to interact with their friends apart from his business & collaterally everyone have dont time to call their friend and to know about their status. This is one of the best platform to be updated with all friends n relative in a cube.

Fcebook is for the entertainment because we people avoiding product advertisement on online, while we are doing surfing, chating, communicating for our entertainment. But we can say we advertise ourself as individual on facebook. I think more than 90% user of facebook used it for entertainment & 10% for advertisement.

Facebook is good for Entertainment not for Advertisement, because most of the users on Facebook come to interact with friends and family. If they want to buy any product or service, they have to google it or use any other search engine, to find a specific website for the product or service. In Facebook, user dont have any option to look for a specific product's advertisement, He can get an add based on the Facebook system.

i should say that users are more for entertainment..firstly the trend was upon orkut where people made a lot of friends..but now everyone started using facebook where one could find a lot of friends,,play lots of games,try lot of applications and so on..also the actors and actresses r upon facebook n not in orkut.

Facebook...today we youth can not imagin life without facebooks, applicaitions, chats etc. Initially when facebook was started, it was just a social networking website with some applications etc. I still remember when I was in 11th in year 2006 when i first saw facebook..it looked a boring and hard to understand website to me with very few Indians..and now facebook is a brand...everywhere and everyone have facebook in his/her life...from celebrities to common man...it is used as a status reflecting word in various advertisements of mobile, mobile services operators, automobiles etc.... Facebook is itself a place for advertisement with gurantee of high growth rate...and huge leads.... It has now became itself a new media of advertisements. From big MNCs to small businesses everyone want to advertise on facebook. It is also a nice platform to raise voice in support or against of any social, political, environmental, or economic issues... I think this monoploy of facebook is going to continue for atleast 5-8 years as google plus can not be trusted as it is too much of closed networking website.

Facebook is for the advertisement, because that is the business model of the website. Let us realise that the entertainment side of FB is also geared towards advertisement. The entertainment value increases your frequency of visits -- so that advertisers can catch your attention when you visit. In other words, the actual use of FB is to offer visitors' eyeballs to advertisers and entertainment is merely the bait that makes it possible (and helps FB's owner earn money).

No doubt Sonam It is a Business proposition under the guise of Boasting entertainment,social networking,a platform for connecting friends,relatives & colleagues etc. which has become a high & passionate & fashionable amongst young adolescents. Slowly it is becoming as FACE HOOK & giving rise to Obsessive Compulsion Disorders especially amongst young adolescents by wasting their precious time before the computer thereby generating good revenue to the site for their Advertisement Revenue generation. Off-late its dis-advantage is more than advantage, which is Debatable.

I think the growth of face book shows that it has more for business growth than for entertainment. Infact most of the business entities have link in face book follow up. That is a valid sign of the business proposition. Even the venture capitalist are ploughing more money to the facebook apart from IPO is anticipated for that venture. These things show certainly that FACEBOOK is not for entertainment at least now..

It like asking is Television for Entertainment or Advertisement. Any platform which gathers a critical mass will eventually looked up to advertise by the advertisers. On the other hand if you take the entertainment part out it beats the core purpose of the platform which will result in loss of audience and hence the loss of advertisement. Thus though the entertainment will always precede, Advertisement will surely follow it.

I would like to highlight a very small thing here " What do u expect from a social networking website", Full entertainment ??? Not possible at all. Ya sonam , i agree with you. Earlier it was launched as a normal networking web site just for entertainment and such huge success was not expected. But its simplicity and flexibility atracted more users. If we think as bussiness or marketing point of view, companies took advantage of its popularity. So there are so many adds on facebook. The process got increased and now the picture is like it is not only a big social networking web site, but a very good place of market making too. We all know that after the success of every website, there is a large number of users. More people use the site for entertainment today then advertising. Its a fact. If we say that more people are just advertising on it only then the popularity will decrease rather increasing. But yes , a large bussiness communities are big part of web site users. But at core level entertainment is the thing that is responsible for the popularity of the site

Although Facebook claims to be social media and socializing is the main activity there, you cannot deny the fact that around the 1 billion dollar has been made by facebook with advertising alone. Companies that use Twitter and Facebook are more likely to generate new business. Social media is not about 'social' any more. It can only continue to exist if there is money to be made.
