Well here u go wrong...i think its quite "course specific" nd u cannot simply generalise d statement. However, talking about the most important courses in India like Engineering, MBBS, Law and Management can only be taught by giving more and more practical exposure.

For any destination theory is value addition to your work. If u know the theory the probability of success will be high. Practical is something very very pin pointed, where there is no backspace is there........... If we consider about Indian education system previously it was practical base but now it is only to ear money & get a better job. My neighbor kids know rose but if u show them a rose they don't know what is it

| We imbibe theoretical knowledge to implement practically and theory knowledge give us a platform to initiate for the same. If we have the theory knowledge but didn't get chance to use it or don't know how to use in real then the whole effort goes in vain. There are many areas in which theoretical knowledge is given the priority and there are many where practical is given the edge. But overall to get India shine, the theoretical knowledge should be given with the practical knowledge implementation know how. This can only be done when one will try to use the same side by side with trial and error method. This method will thus help to reduce the occurrence of error and will provide an edge in the practical life. Learn theoretically implement practically side by side and the result will be there. Result to grow, prosper and shine in future...like ever going non stoppable.</p> |

As the saying I hear & I forget, I listen & I understand, I do & I remember well according to me practical knowledge has utmost importance as compared to theorotical knowledge. At the end of the day what matters is how well are you exceeding in implementing what you've learnt rather than what your grades are.

I am fully in agreement with Shweta, it is difficult to segregate two from each other, and both are interdependent. If we do not have sound theoretical knowledge then practical will always be on hit and trial. That’s the reason why most of the Indians all over the world accepted as support staff, coz they have sound theoretical knowledge and guys who are in lead with more practical approach can be guided by them. But in the changing world it’s time for Indians to look for driving seats and lead roles and for that it is MUST that we bring change in our education system adding lot more from practical approach of education. I believe, the sound system which we have created a little change can bring a lot of difference in our approach to practical side of the education. And success in LIFE.

Dear Friends In my Theory knowledge is must in education, since after knowing theory you can apply this knowledge for practical approches. But parraly Practical knowledge is also necessary otherwise the person may be confuse in understanding the real picture of theoretical knowledge. So both are must for education.First Theoretical & than Practical.

yes i support practical knowledge is more important in Indian education that theoretical knowledge as it will increase the confidence to implement knowledge to gain maximum without practical knowledge bookish knowledge is of know use. implementation power is been escalated with the help of practical knowledge. this also make a person to become more creative which leads to newer inventions that we had seen in the past also so in my view practical knowledge must be promoted.

Thanks for inviting me in the debate. The subject is quiet interesting but not going in too much detail, I think that although the practical is more important but the theory aspect too can not be ignored or neglected.

Hi Im from engineering and so my views pertain more to technical domain. I have observed the following strengths of Indians vs, other country candidates in singapore: 1- Very strong in theory 2- Able to be hands on 3- Not afraid of any assigned task 4- Have a relatively less sophistication (mannerisms, etiquette, EQ etc.) but quite acceptable by any standard. I attribute these features to the huge theory baggage we carry in Engineering + lots of labs with freedom to have hands on with machines, equipment, and sufficient encouragement from faculty to explore (not the best possible, but above lower levels). But best of all is the courage to be practical (Jugadoo). Lateral thinking is greatly enhanced due to the extreme competition for resources. In a nutshell: OUR EDUCATION DOESNT SEEM TO BE CONTRIBUTING AS MUCH AS THE SEVERE COMPETITION WE FACE AND EMERGE OUT OF.

Theory knowledge is only for limited period. but Particle knowledge is very supporting in education sector. but In Indian education sector all teachers focus on theory knowledge but they don't know what is the real needs of today's child in their education.

Theory is the base on which one have to construct a building by applying the knowledge. This application of the knowledge can be termed as practical knowledge. And I think, if your base is weak, your building can't stand for more time & somebody can't teach you to apply your knowledge, so it depends upon one's natural talent & ability to face problems/difficulties, etc.
