To develop a better product/application companies improves SPI or SPM or both?

For example CMM, Six SIGMA, SPICE, SCAMPI, OWPL etc are process improvement models and waterfall, spiral, prototype, incremental, iterative etc are process models. To develop a better (in terms of quality, cost, time etc) product/application companies usually improve their process. So, do the companies improvise on the SPI or SPM or both.

I will prefer both because when we try to define a software development process, we produce a software process model While  selecting a way to improve our software development process, we  choose a Process Improvement 'model'. It's advisable to choose one that is tailored to software development, or at least to Development,

What do you say guys?

Hi Kiran,

Both are important. But SPM is subset of SPI. When we focus on SPI (Irrespective of PI selected), SPM is taken into consideration. SPM is localized whereas SPI is covers end to end of product.
