Vinoy I am in total agreement with you. India is a beautiful country and has the potential to become a hot spot of tourism provided the Government spend some money on infrastructure. It will be one of the highest foreign exchange earner in time to come, provided the government act as mentioned above.

Frankly Mr Madhukumar fail to spot the reason in debate. There is absolutely no doubt that India can do severally better in tourism yet this requires cohesion and direction. Be it in infrastructure or delivery or regulation or the overall satisfaction monitoring mechanisms. For any domain to work as industry all stakeholders and much more importantly the policymakers and regulators ought set priorities in order and not follow the policy of forever and wherever making hay while sun shines.Asides infrastructure, Investor in hurry to reap dividends at cost of bringing disrepute is as well damaging as Safety and Security are paramount to growth in this segment.

Yes Ravindra is absolutely right. On its part the hospitality industry has to get its act together and set standards which are adhered to self-regulate. Tourism is an industry where service is the major factor by a large yardstick. Not even super-quality products deliver if service is not up-to standards.

Really sad! India is really wasting the opportunity. Infrastructure is absolutely a necessity. Even human resources can be managed from other countries. But Infrastructure is a must.

TOURISM IS ONE BIG REVENUE EARNER IN TERMS OF FOREIGN EXCHANGE WHICH IS NOT GETTING THE REQUIRED LEVEL OF IMPORTANCE.THERE IS A WIDE GAP.WITH VERY LITTLE AMOUNT OF INVESTMENT IN TERMS OF RUPEES,AND WHOLE HEARTED INVOLVEMENT WE CAN MINT MONEY AS CULTURALLY WE ARE THE RICHEST IN THE WHOLE WORLD.

the tourism industry when ideally should be a mjor conributor of revenue is a major failure ,pertaining not only to the infrastructure ,and as mr .ujjval mentioned stinky flith (yuck ,i have to say it b'coz the way guys treat whole city as urinal which looks hideous and inappropriate ) but also to the lack of security ,in light of extortion incidents happening . there are coutries where situation is even more grave but point is to emerging as a sensitive citizens rather then apathetic .

I agree with Mr Makrand on this. There should be Ideation sice it is already a huge Industry as per our country is concerned. How to make it better should come from the perticipants.

Ujjvalji Really heartening to reading these lines. Recently I have been to Konark. They have put up spittons. I hope putting up spittons, and small placards requesting piligrims/tourists to use spittons can improve the position. The only tribute we can pay to the architects of fort, workers who have spent their time and energy is to keep it clean.

Dear Malladi, its great that you have initiated this topic. But as Makrand said, it would be further great if you present this as an idea contest rather than as an debate. Also, by referring in relevant communities, you will get lot of contribution...

Ideation in terms of HOW?? Tourism and its infrastructure, Governments involvement, States involvement, Private Hotel players, Tourism Development Corporations role... Madhukumar tourism is one of the largest foreign exchange churner for our govt. You have to ideate to increase it or discuss factors affecting it in a Q&A.

I am here as I do not support this as a DEBATE!! This should ideally be in ideation to ask people how to??? It is a topic to ideate on and not debate on... Its my view and am sorry if you feel I have been rude or anything..
