The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has tightened the noose around unsolicited calls and SMSes. It has released recommendations to keep in check spam SMSes and calls.

There would be penalties of up to Rs. 2.5 lakh per SMS or call on telemarketers and they will be will be blacklisted on commence of the sixth offence.Trai has made it mandatory that no commercial communication will be made to any customer between 9 pm and 9am

.Do you think this decision would create an impact?

This step by the telecom authority has no meaning, As all of us are aware of that the calls or the sms what we get are in the day time not during the night. If they really wanted to stop this then they should have done it in the day time. As we know the day every one is busy in their work that is the time when these calls and sms come up. So they should ban these calls completely.

If it is implemented, it would be get. But, the question is can it implement. The companies will definitely oppose this move, because it adverse affect their business.

This should be implemented exclusively to banks(that are generous to sanction loans) and to real estate owners. Root cause analysis shows that these people are not to be blamed. It is the service providers who entertain such sms at a cost.

it is necessary to regulate unwanted and unsolicited calls and messages. Because such calls and messages not only create inconveniences but also waste of time and efforts.

Yes that is going to work it out bcoz now all the companies hae a number which ll start from 2 so now we can monitor the calls & no need to receive calls from that numbers. Now as per the TRAI if anyone ll find to call someone from their personal numbers TRAI ll cut their numbers & penality ll be there.Si this is going to work

Policies are fine, who implements and monitors? Regulators' roles are restricted to policy making, irresponsible people at the helm of affairs sabotage every policy in the country. There should be an independent body under the direct control of Supreme Court should monitor such move and penalise the errants on a war-footing. If they ceremoniously do this for at least one year without break punishing all the errants impartially, a strong message will go to the telemarketers. You can't expect self-discipline, self-restraint!

This is a welcome step. But the penalty should be applicable who are registered with do not disturb registry only.

Am not sure it can be done - the move against, was started a few years ago but nothing came out of it! And now with many resorting to advertising through bulk sms's, I doubt any amount of protest would yield anything favorable!

It is a wise decision taken by the Telecom Authority as there are at times when in the midnight also we get these sms, they should see that if the customer has not opted for any kind of Do not call service they can call him up but if opted for the service then do not disturb. In India there are 700 million user's out of which only 90 million user's have opted for do not call service, but the rest still deal with these calls and sms's.

Seems like TRAI is working in a different timezone than the rest of Indians do. Seems wanted to enforce this regulation for residents Alaska . In Alaska the day would start at 9 PM IST ( 6.30 AM Alaska Time) and end by 9AM ( IST..

I agree with Namrata. I never received such calls in the time frame of 9.00 pm to 9.00 am. That's ridiculous.
