Training, of course, is an investment, provided the training is imparted to the needy. Before imparting any training in organisations, it is for the organisation to conduct a programme on loyalty, ethical enterprise, ethics and values drawing insights from Bhagwat Gita and other Precepts. Once conditioned, the employees would be in a right framework of mind to utilize the training to the optimum utilization to match the goals and objectives of the organisation. Otherwise, training is a wasteful exercise.

Training is always an investment. At times as a manager you may encounter an employee who is highly willing to do a job but lacks ability. A manager will have to play the role of a coach and make sure the employee gets adequate training. The bottom line is - Hire for attitude and Train for Skills.

Training is definitely an investment, both for the employer and the employee. However, the need for training needs to be clearly spelt out and communicated to the trainees and the management. Only when there is clarity in thought on the subject will the training become effective. I have come across managers who undertake training programs just because there is a a budget for the same and their KRAs include number of training programs conducted. This needs to be avoided since here the training becomes a cost and not an investment.

It all boils down to what is the major GAP that had spurred this Training spell. If the gap is due to Non KSA issues, Training is useless. Though I am a Trainer, let me confess that Training is not a panacea for all ills of an organization, as some in my profession want us to think. If the "gap" is KSA, that too in a critical area, only than Training is justified.Let us also not forget that, above a certain limit money alone cannot be a "retainer" of talented professionals.A good Training system, I am told, reduces attrition rate.
