Twitter has recently announced that it will start showing sponsored tweets on some search pages, taking a cautious first step into a traditional advertising business model that could provide a steady source of revenue for the 4-year-old startup which doesn’t make any serious money yet, but is reckoned to be worth a billion dollars.

The so-called Promoted Tweets will put tweets from paying customers at the top of some Twitter search pages, clearly marked as ads, so what do you think people will these ads tweak its tweeters? I mean will people like ads now getting placed on Twitter from now on?

As we know social networking is on top of internet and is getting popular day by day. Many companies find it as the better source for advertising, even twitter is a company and it need to generate revenue. The only way is through ads. So I don't think placing ads will disturb the tweeters.

:)

Tweeting the ads is a good revenue model to the company. The problem is how the twitter wants to put the ads, what is the model, how that affects the users is not known clearly. Most of the users are happy now because there are no ads in the twitter. If ads are placed for each and every tweet may disguise the users. Twitter has to come up with a policy such that ads will not give the any problem for normal tweeting. Otherwise twitter name will be there in the history but not in real use.

I believe that Its actually is not going to affect the interest level of tweetersphere. It would be important to maintain the resonance and low occurrence though in the search pages but if we think about the Ads in my timeline that's a strict no no unless you can create a separate section marked with borders for the same (I wonder the operation logic behind this though). Apart from that I also doubt if Ads only are going to generate the enough revenue for the micro-blogging site to keep afloat.

Revenue generation is what will eventually keep these social netwroking sites afloat.

I think tweets is a brilliant way to generate revenues and since twitter is followed very closely by HUMAN Brands and INANIMATE Brands both with the same gusto, its a great way to grab that dollar / rupee!!

This cluttering of the web pages was inevitable and the catastrophe of ads cluttering a clean web page begins. Its necessary and essential. Thanks for the referral Sonam

Definitely not though the revenue is there and it will only enhance the commercial viability of twitter. But do consumers like ads in their SMS. I dont think so and certainly dont like it. The minute i see a commercial sms in my message box, i just delete the same. So also with tweeter. But maybe an MMS kind of visual message might interest the consumer.

Till the medium is tried and corrective measures taken, one cannot conslusive deliver a judgement on its effectiveness. Like any new media, twieeter too has to be researched before it can be effectively included in media plans.

This was "just due" - ads on Tweeter. Most probably this may curb normal tweeting and its easy flow.

Equally true that they might want to generate revenues. Let us see how things appear. Nevertheless, the charm goes.
