This Technology is really needed for country like india.

It will definately help to fill the gap between rural and urban India...too..

I am a bit confused , is this the X10 protocol mentioned because it helps in data transmission over HV connections .The  only issue comes in the point where we have power transformers .IT is ideal for communication over power lines given the fact that the modems are in place .

OR is this the Intelligent  grid network  By IBM ? because IBM has planned this on a great scale and even internet comes in the play .Whatever the tech , this will certainly help provided the govt regulates the standards and formalities .The tech is in place .All we need is to implement it :)

BPL is indeed a great concept. This could be a revolution in India. This will not only bring down the infrastructure cost but also enable the strength to offer this at affordable rates. The news itself is exciting, its really a waiting period to grab this offer.

There are lot of technical disadvantages in the wireless communication technology. This type of solutions not only overcome the pitfalls of wireless technology but also reduce the huge amount of investment in infrastructure specially in terms of laying saperate cables for electricity, telephone, computer networking etc.

Agreed with Ashok sir, The main advantage will be to connect our rural areas.
