Chief Justice of India (CJI) K G Balakrishnan on Sunday said there was an urgent need to ban websites that circulate pornography and hate speeches and emphasized the need for cyber law enforcement. Though this is a difficult task at hand for the justice department but looks heading in the right direction as cyber law is the need of the hour for India as there is a constant rise in crime that are committed on virtual world and its difficult for the judicial system in India to get a good grip on these offenders as there is no proper cyber law in India.
With pornography, hate speeches the youngsters are being led in the wrong way so in this regard the CJI has said that they need to ban these Porn websites and sites which has hate speeches. So what do you think guys, This ban on porn websites: can it really happen? Please share your views
Yes, it can happen and it should happen for the better, the Government should ban these websites and there should be a strict scrutiny on internet whether porn content is getting circulated or not, and people who are behind it should be punished, and with growing dominance of social networking everywhere we are infact seeing a rise in cyber crimes, gone are the days when a crime was committed in actual real world but now its happening on the virtual world in internet.
There is misuse of technology which can lead to personal attacks on the individual and in many cases, images or videos are created without the consent of the persons involved and they are unscrupulously circulated for commercial gain. Such practices are a complete invasion of privacy as well as an attack on an individual's dignity.

Tell me a KID who listens to his parents that really listen to whatever his parent say like PORN is Bad and please dont look at it. Come on People! restricting something to rebellious mind is like addiction which your brain cannot control, which is much more powerful than smoking and alcohol. Before porn becomes an addiction, teach your kids about the birds and the bees and show them examples of addiction and its ill effects and then use cyber nanny in your computers. Parents should take measures to educate their kids.
Studies have shown that if you restrict or take away something which was readily available to them, they will find new ways to control that addiction, new ideas, new methods and dangerous pleasures gets into the business which will provided by willing parties satisfy needs and then crime.
I say BAN sites that promote child pornography and pornography of the dangerous kind. As far as FREEDOM OF SPEECH internet is the one place where everybody can vent their frustration when they cant say it out in the open.
My Opinion is "EDUCATE the Society" first before Imposing restriction on sites and free speech.
support 'Yes'.yes.. The will to act is more material then just to ban. Since these contents deprave the mind of young person so it is made a crime. Govt cannot be mute spectator to perpetrator of crimes and must act proactively by initiating action for Child Pornography, cyber stalking and cyber bullying. However I also say that it is the victim who has to come out and report the matter to police and the govt must then initiate criminal action against the cyber criminals. By

We may ask : is hate speech is 'free speech' ? The answer is : No - hate may bar your free speech.
Was Internet invented for easy flow of "Pornography" ? Answer is : No It was to promote nobel communications. Hi everybody .. rejoice .. Internet has been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize .. !!
May we find any solutions resorting to 'hate speeches ' ?
What C.J.I. has said is the words of many of us.
Yes .. these should be avoided ( and what may be avoided be 'banned' equally .. !!). U .. said .. we may become another China ? U .. said Western World / Google may quit business from India also ?
If we think deeply, if banned, this may not harm us - rather we may progress. When Internet was not there, this old civilisation named India equally flourished. To-days rich/powerful nations came into existance long after India / China.

You are right sonam. But how to control ?? Is it possible with some act or rule ?? I dont think its possible. Because, for eg, there is enough salacious material in TV. Whether anybody is able to stop ? Then, how is it possible to stop porn in web. I feel, its a bullet out of gun. It can't be stopped; the best what can be done is, to regulate or control damage. There should be more and more positive education on this.

I support this. In the name of Education, pollution of this nature should not be permitted. - it should be banned, if cannot be controlled by science. I agree with one of the honourable member here that there is really a very thin line between fashion & nudity. In the name of Fashion, let us not promote nudity whether male of female.
I guess people loading these sites are doing it just for money - Plaese stop as there are ways to earn money but not by polluting the mind of young ones as well well elders.
I support on this topic. It should be banned, but we should also see the other side of this.We can not controll on those who are actually involved in circulating these rubbish things. There is really a very thin line between fashion & nudity,as we can see some of our high society ladies wear such kind of dresses that may exhibits the nudity under the lable of fashion. So who are going to stop them from wearing such type of dresses? & as far as porn sites are concern it will not closed completly as it is really a big global business worldwide. As per one survey conducted in metro cities, states that there is 10 to 12% increase in sale each year for sex toys in Banglore & Madras. Now these all are the marketing gimmicks continuously hammered on some knowledgable sites also & solution for them is just ignore them.
This should immediately ban .By means of porn sites our generation gets totally deterioted and they are drag into the wrong path which leads useful of website can be under estimated and effective of useful sites get unknowing to the more number of peoples.

`Chief Justice of India (CJI) K G Balakrishnan on Sunday said there was an urgent need to ban websites that circulate pornography and hate speeches and emphasized the need for cyber law enforcement`.I support this step however fickle the courts may seem in their direction.May be they want to do some PRAYASCHIT for legalising Homosexuality just last year and this year(2010A.D) some of them have asked the government whether PROSTITUTION can be made legal!!!!!!!
Yes I strongly recommend that this type of website and any material available on net strictly prohibited because it is very much dangerous for youngsters because they are in learning phase and they are very much eager to know each and every thing surrounding them, and these type of material may harm their mental growth and capabilities. and I request to all the IT professional to make some effort to block these type of website in in Indian arena.
Saravanakumar I agree with you. Yes there is no use of banning the porn sites, because that is not the only way a person gets spoiled. As saravana said movies are also spoiling kids, so we should ban movies and then come to porn websites. Everything is in their parents hand, they should educate their children about the good and bad of using a website.
I believe we can control everything by making others understand.
With respect to pornography & explicit content; it may be slightly disdain to ban it or rather put an end to it. Right from teenagers to adults; we all are supposedly matured enough to differentiate good and bad. Educating young ones would be mandatory in the first place to begin with if not anything else.
With respect to hate speeches; how about trying to nip it in the bud before being brought forth on the web. We do understand and believe that we all are part of a democracy and freedom of speech is supposed to be a birthright, however does that give leeway to start condemning people & opposition, caste & religion, etc??? Its still surprising that certain elements of society/politicians/designated people of law take the law into their own hands and yet give a damn about it anyways.
Ranadeb I love the way you have expressed. It is simply superb. Good argument and I support you.
What I feel is this is individuals opinion and every individual has the right to know what is good and bad. So by banning this it will only increase their intension to know that. So better to leave it as it is.

It is not that Government can decide what is hate speech. Sometimes even legitimate writings could get classified as "hate speech". For example, it has been found that some web sites that discuss those aspects of religions that are not usually understood by the public are sometimes declared as "hate sites".
To criticize powerful persons, powerful religions, powerful nations etc is often a necessity for the evolution of civilization. I think the Government may ban such free and fair discussion on various subjects that affect human life and thereby encourage the extremists of the powerful world religions indirectly.
Banning porn is ok. Banning free speech is not.
Last, but not the least : MTV is also another porn site, it is spreading extremely vulgar culture via shows like Splitsvilla etc. Why can't the Government control such offenders ? Porn on the net is much more difficult to control but they can at least stop such rubbish on TV which is accessible to all ?

I accept Porn website spoils the kids and youngsters, but Banning this site never helps the society. The main source for this is cinema, which we cant stop/Ban.Like higher version. So no use in this. Our culture has changed a lot.First, Kids and teenagers gets spoiled by cinema not by Porn website.
When u try to hide something the people become more suspicious and put their best efforts to know it, so instead of put the bars on we should teach them about its pros and corns and shall give them the right knowledge, so that they stop wasting their time on useless matters which can help them to concentrate on their career.

Instead of taking the negative role : "ban porn", "ban hate speech", the Governments should ask why such things are gaining popularity in the first place,
The reason is only one : the lack of spiritual culture. If the Government could encourage proper spiritual education for the children, it would not longer need to struggle with issues such as porn and hate speech.
Why can't we have this at least in India ? Why can't we have Bhagvad Gita taught to the students (I know some persons will cry foul, they will try to introduce so many other religious texts as well). It is not necessary especially in India to teach anything else but Bhagvad Gita. If we begin to have a spiritual (instead of so called "secular") education, such problems will cease on their own.
I cannot find anybody listening.

We can't ban the porn by raw. The ban on this type of site will motivate to people to saw this. We also ban dowry etc. but they become more popular. To save our generation from this type of such things we should go for Bramchiarya
No, I don't think it will happen, banning is not that simple, though this is the right way to go about, but ban on all categories of websites is not possible. It is also important to distinguish between intermediaries such as Network Service Providers, website operators and individual users for the purpose of placing liability for wrongful acts. Even after banning I don't think there will be no porn at all, people can get them from various sources, when there was no internet and all even then there was porn, but infact it will assure that one won't get easy access to porn the way it is now. Than banning why not scrutinize where the porn is circulating in internet and outside internet & catch the offenders.
