I am supporting the president of my country and Castro of Cuba who believes that President Obama deserves the Noble Peace Prize. Obama is seen as a World Leader. To become the President of the USA has shown what he made of...and if he truly deserves that position so why not this prize as well. I personally is too small to determine whether he deserves that prize. It happens all the time, where people gets awards, etc and don't deserve it, so what is the big fuss over this one.

Mr. Obama deserves for it because in his tenure of Presidentship most of the decisions are correct. He is trying for Nuclear disarmament, thoroughly thinking about Palestine and Israil (the matter is always burning topic for polarisation of the world),Curbing terrorism inhouse and at Global level, Being a person of grass root level with possitive attitutde ,taking the things in right perspective as in case of India, China and Pakistan(ie accomodating all of them with their interests at single front) deserves the nobel prize best.

He has initiated and boosted up nuclear disarmament and peace process under his able leadership after assuming highest post. He is of positive attitude due to which he is gaining tremendous support from blacks as well as from whites also. Being an young most US people expecting strong, stable and peaceful USA under his leadership. So I think Mr. Obama deserve it.

I think he deserves the nobel peace prize just for one fact, the nuclear disarmament was been carried by many till now, but then Obama has brought some impact and he is generating some tremendous interests in this regard from many nations and this Nuclear stockpile issue has certainly got a boost under Obama's aministration at the helm. so in my opinion he deserves peace prize for taking the right initiative in that regard, till now many came and went without success in this matter, but Obama seems to be making the right moves in making everyone understand the importance of Nuclear disarmament, just because he is getting the nobel peace prize very soon in his career doesn't mean that he is not worthy for it, with this peace prize people will take more seriously in the nuclear disarmament issue with much more importance in the coming days.

Time to stop and I agree. Toostep lacks one aspect here. There should be a way where we should generate statistics out of the debate say., No. of visitors to the topic; no. of participants in the debate; voting pattern; conclusions; highlights of debates; branched out topics; conclusive analyses... We should also look at a consolidated world opinion platform....Such platform could only take statistics out of sites like toostep but not individual opinions. The consolidated info on this platform should be considered world opinion and gradually enter our lives... If there is no further use of the debate, all our time spent is not fully productive after all. At this point of time, Toostep has become a sounding board and nothing much

out of 30 votes here...24 i.e 80% are not supporting Obama getting the nobel peace prize....clearly shows what people think about him because its us who ultimately decide whether we are in peace coz of him or not....i think time now to rest the case as the verdict is more than just clear!!!

I am more appalled by comments such as the reference to the antichrist and "no" than I am surprised by Obama's being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Why has the level of political discourse sunk to such a low point?

Thanks Mr. Sunder. He hasn't even given peace to the minds of Americans..leave alone the global peace. The Americans are still losing sleep over their ailing economy, uncertain about their jobs..etc...All he has succeeded in is giving lame promises to the people and "Hope"...I think i would rather look up to my religion for hope than politicians like him!!!

Mr Tripathi you have analysed right. When Obama took office, there were lot of expectations from him - not on peace or nuclear disarmament but on economy and healthcare. On both these fronts he has failed to deliver. The context in which the nomination was made was positive. But down the line, he has not lived up to the expectations. To look at it impartially, when a person has not delivered on expectations of his strength area and perhaps to escape criticism on this front, he got himself engaged in PR efforts in other countries and he was awarded with nobel peace prize! Even the argument that the nobel committee some times awards the prize to motivate a person to do good to humanity will lose strength, since to do this, he should be a performer and early indications are that he is not one! The World Bank, United Nations, Nobel Prize Committee etc. have a larger than life image in us. They should live up to it. Somehow, in the present economic situation in the world, all these institutions are losing their sheen.

Nobel Foundation has, of late, lost its sheen. Nobel Awards have become more subjective these days. Some one has mentioned the selection of Mr. Obama for Nobel Peace Award is a sheer 'cynicism'. The sense of urgency shown in his case throws a mudslinging debate throughout the world, which is uncalled for. Mr. Obama is in office for the past nine months only and is entangled already in Heath debate in the USA. We have seen unrest in the Central Asia, global terrorism is on the rise, Pakistan is yet to be tamed, Afghanistan has become a pin-prickle, Iraq's issue is yet to get resolved fully, growing nuclear piling danger in Iran, Pakistan's ex-General's confession of sharing nuclear developments' blueprints to China and other countries. Has he partook in the struggle of Africa, many of the countries in West Africa is still in apathy. Was he instrumental in bringing New World Order. The major threat for the international community is the terrorism. We have to note what was his popularity in the US before election in terms of percentage, and the present level of support by his fellow-Americans. As a Humanbeing, he is a very gentle and very genuine in his approach. He, of course, is a deserving personality, but should have been conferred this Award to him towards the end of his political career, when we would have appreciated his vision before coming to power, and his achievement oriented towards his vision. The present selection does not go in good taste, though he is the deserved lot.

We should not forget that the nominations of Nobel Peace prize had gone just 2 weeks after Obama took oath as the Prez of USA...I don't think he has done much in those 2 weeks to deserve the highest prize on this planet for peace..I am sure other nominees have been supporting their cause for years...It has become more of an American Prize now...Its not the first time that an American Prez has been given this Prize for not so significant reason...

Awards: Nobel peace prize had long lost credibility. Unlike fields like Science and Literature, peace prize has become extremely politicised. When Yasseer Arafat can get and Gandhi ignored, Why Obama even Osama can get. In this matter even Indian awards like Padma award, Bharat Ratna is made a mockery of. Media men like Rajdeep Sardesai given Padma shri award ( He openly supports a particular party in various news reports does not warrant a Padma Award) Same with Bharat Ratna, a state CM, MGR was awarded Bharat Ratna for alliances sake. Anyway, these awards are themselves an eyewash so...

It is very early, as not a whole year has been passed as Mr. Obama has assumed the office of highest post. There is no signal of curtailment of Defence Budget by USA. Being of muslim origin terrorists has just stopped their attacks on christians to favour Mr. Obama. He is promuslim. So he do not deserve it.

What peace he was doing ? more than half of the Americans don't like him since he belongs to a Muslim father and none of the Muslim nations like him since he changed his religion to Catholicism. In the name of peace, he was just keeping his image clear so that he can maintain his position of President of USA. So, he doesn't deserve the Nobel Prize.

He is Black and of Mixed racial and Ethnic Background in a world which is becoming a global village. -- you told world is becoming global village but he want to separate US from global village and want to sell all products made in US and by US people and earn for them self's is not what his intention. As far as I feel Noble prize in peace should be given to noble person not to Obama.

Its all happend sudden, what ever effort Mr Obama has taken is a good sign ,but it has to be accepted by the rest of the world to work . So far as Nobel peize is concerned things going very first , he is not eligible for this within the initiation of process ,outcome is more important than the process itself .

In the past years, a lot of people have been calling out dor reducing the stockpiles of nuclear weapons. Some organisations devote a lot of resources and get no credit for doing so. Obama makes the call, and without waiting for the results and/or specific actions, he gets awarded the Nobel Peace prize? I feel sorry for those who have been fighting for the past 40/50 years to get rid of the weapons.
