Formally declaring that combat mission in Iraq is over US President Barack Obama has said that this milestone should serve as a message to the world that it intends to sustain and strengthen our leadership in the 21st century.

But still Iraq has that nuclear weapon threat. Was it a wise decision to move out US troops from Iraq?  Please share your views on this.

I think it was a wise decision to move out from Iraq. The US should have withdrawn from Iraq long back.Though late it is a welcome measure. Bush unnecessarly fought a war for years with Iraq. More than million inocent people dead after this unprovoked & unreasonable war.....Now the the troops can defend their own country than someone else'

yes , it.s a right move this must have been done earlier. AS if your child is slapped by a neighbour , you will not accept it ,but if your child is doing same mistake in front of you . H e will be beaten by you for which you would'nt be guilty.

Similarly others police or army handles your public it would'nt be acceptable to any one.

It was not a matter of choice as the whole premise for this venture eventually proved wrong and hence there was no valid reason to keep continuing this expedition.

Of course, the time has come for US to move out of Iraq. Any stay further would be a burden on US exchequer.

AN UNSUCCESSFUL US HAS NO ALTERNATIVE BUT TO GET OUT OF IRAQ. IT WAS A BLUNDER ON PART OF US TO INVADE IRAQ FOR NO REASONS. IN FACT, THEY SHOULD BE PUT ON TRIAL.

I agree with Nisha US could vacate from Iraq earlier than this. As Rathan said we have to wait and see what is next.

I am in total agreement with you Disha. The forcees should have been gone back much earlier.

Unfortunately, Iraq may not turn into another Afganisthan or Somalia. We should wait and see.

AS rightly said by Ms. Disha, this decision should've been taken long back.
Every country has a right to live the way they want to be, not under any kinda pressure.

So people will have a Breather.

We can not make out a strategic analysis of the pull-out. But, what we normally observe is that,

  • Mr. Obama fulfils his election promise to his citizen.
  • Allow Iraqi to run govt, particularly , when there is no majority among them.
  • Civil aids will continue from US, till such time, they are self reliant.

Any country takes any step especially when it relates to matters in other countries, its decision is solely based on its national interest. Especially so when its the country like USA which is the sole superpower and it will excatly do whatever is in its interest- this has been aptly described in whatever steps it has taken during last 100 years or so. Being stay-put in Iraq was fetching US the diminishing returns with rising casualties among its troops as well as civillians, resentment among Muslim world, rising cost to US exchequer especially when other NATO members are not ready to commit more troops or money on foregn conquests especially after recession, etc . Also there should be the limit to the foreign occupation and more so for Obama who had promised his electorate of troop withdrawal from Iraq as well as Afghanistan soon. Moreover American public itself is resenting the wasteful expenditure or bailout packages provided by US administration. Looking at the circumstances it was the most sensible things the US could do at this moment and not to mention that there are still 50 thousand soldiers still in Iraq who will assist the local govt to take control of the situation.

Thanks Disha for referral.i support you by your concluding para. The decision is wise or not will depend upon the many factors operating in Iraq.

Yes definitely it is a wise and right decision. It should have been done very long back in order to stop the destruction of Irag. Now the country Irag has been economically deteriorated by the invasion of US which wanted to control the oil price.

Thanks for the referral Ms. Disha Roy.

The decision to move out of Iraq should have been taken long back. The occupation of Iraq by the US troops only led to misery, grief and casualties on both sides....

The final goal was not achieved and it is also difficult to achieve it. Invasion or occupation of an alien nation by another nation for trying to resolve issues does not work in the long term as the resentment felt by the civilians of the occupied nation ensures that the issues are not resolved and it only leads to further degeneration and anarchy in the occupied nation....

The US is aware of all this background (Vietnam war is a case in point) and it was just a matter of time before the US decided to evacuate Iraq based more on expediency rather than on other grounds.....

They will never pull out of IRAQ completely. If at all, why they have eneterd into IRAQ? US has played a vital role in disturbng the peace in middle east to fulfill their own dirty agendas. US is the only nation on earh that can be termed as "terrorist nation"... They are famous for pushing their agenda of peace keeping & humanitarian help without asking to disturb the peace & creating humanitarian disasters.
