Recently, I was asked to participate in a management convention program organized by business group as a visiting professional. Their they gave a very good punch line for getting consistency in quality throughout the process "VALUE ADDITION IS MORE IMPORTANT OR VALUE CREATION". Their official people giving more stress on value addition to convert their rejected batch into a profitable finished goods, whereas outside professionals like me focussing on setting up a clear specification for creating a process to achieve the quality standards throughout. Still debate is going on.....

Hey Guys, I would say value addition. Value creation is always the first step, but when you move ahead, you look for value addition. The value creation part in most of the cases is copied or inspired out of something. Its always great if you got it genuine. However, value added can be your selling preposition.

The feature of value-added has to be there at the start of the planning stage, which simply means that the value has to be created with the product itself. However, value-adding could be implemented at any subsequent stage if the existing value is not enough or if there is no value at all.

Value addition is deriving more meaning out of your existing value creating avenues. All the efforts (Value stream mapping, Lean manufacturing etc...) are aimed at making the most of it (i.e.value enhancing from existing avenues).

It will be counter productive to make efforts of Value creation, when existing avenues have untapped value potential.

Creation is adding something to nothing! Thats Creation!

But when you create something in an existing world you are just another one on the shelf of so many! What you need is a distinction of being 'DIFFERENT". That is an ADDED value to your creation and the reason why you are there on the shelf amongst all others and yet DIFFERENT!

Value addition will make your creation better than most! Automatically it would add value to the creation as well. But it is necessary to ADD value to the creation first and then the value rubs off on the creation as well.!

I think its more of a Cat and Mouse game. Tom beating Jerry and vice versa!

When you create a product you create it with a vision that it (is) unique in terms of its utility. Its unbeatable in its price in the category. It is visibly very attractive for a consumer to just "GO BUY IT"! etc ... Its an ideal scenario. Lets look at it from a perspective of adding a product in the existing product bouquet already on the shelf in the market. What would you create then?

I simply fail to understand how can you even think about asking reasons for creating a glove for utility in leather and then introducing latex gloves for being fire resistant!!

I would say that create a product that reeks of features that are present in the competition as well but add value in terms of some unique feature like design and costs!! So for me creating value for the product to be sold in the open market is as good as adding value to the same product to be sold in the open market!

It is akin to Kaizen and Reengineering. Value addition is incremental while Value creation is dramatic change. Obviously, the former is more frequent as compared to the latter. Value Creation is definitely more important because it symbolises change.

Unless value creation is done, value addition can't be done. Once value creation is done properly, value addition becomes easy. That means building a scalable system.

Value creation is building from nothing to something, which means opening a whole load of options for value addition. Value creation helps a great deal in prosperity where as value addition helps in sustaining the created value.

Nitin interesting topic. Basically both are brand value. If a product is launched for the first time, there is no value, so the value is created by branding etc... This is Value Creation. If an old product with existing value is exposed to a different branding exercise is called value addition. Value addition is a follow up on earlier value. Value Creation is first time for any new product intoduced in the market.

If we take care of process right from the beginning and creat the value instead of adding it, we can have consistent quality. It is my opinion, let me know your arguments and their basis, please.
