The iconic Vespa is set for its third innings in India as parent Piaggio is in final stages of setting up its scooter plant at Baramati in Maharashtra. The Italian company is looking to make inroads into the fast-growing scooter market that is currently dominated by Honda and TVS. Can Vespa be a dominant force once again in scooter market in India? @ Mr. Baksh, sir,the young generation u r talking about is very much aware about the technology and models of the new launch in the market. see the example of mahindra Rodeo. and in a busy traffic u may easily find the bike to scooter ratio 50 50 or sometime 50 60 as they are easy to drive in heavy traffic. girls, oldage people and many of the youth like scooters due to their easy riding. only market confidence has to be obtained by vespa that is not a big deal in the era of advertisemnet.

Vespa which was earlier LML Vespa which lost considerable market share against the Bajaj scooters then the Kinetic honda and now the scooters from Honda are ruling the roost. Also in news is that Yamaha is also joining the foray with their wide range of scooters into the Indian market, Vespa needs to start all over again, with also Mahindra & Mahindra in this segment, it will be all the more difficult for them to break into the market with a bang. Also the brand value of Vespa has gone down considerably.

I belive any body today entering in india market.. weather Vespa or some other player will suceed only if they are coming with some other unique features in their automobiles.Like due tp raising cost of fuels i.e. petrol perople are looking for energy efficient vehichkes or something which can be run by alternative sources of energy.Other wise Big players like Honda,Mahindra,Hero Group,TVS has already established thenselves and very less space is there for new entrants.

Vespa will only succeed if they promote themselves as premium and lifestyle brand in India.

I agree that scooter segement has its own market, but gaints like honda in the market, Vepsa may struggle to find its own space.

With technology backing them and given the right distributors, they can surely be a success. But they will have to ensure good after sales service which is the top most priority in indian markets.

As long as its product designs are attractive n competitive and capture the minds of the younger generations, vespa wont have any trouble in succeding. Vespa seriously lacks in the design dept, while the quality remains on par with competition. All the best to u Vespa.

i agree with you ,suraj, but even in Bhopal, bikes more than scooters could be spotted. Yes, scooters are easy to handle, young ones are now a days more adventurous and mobile. I  find in you a sobering trace which is indicative of preserving energy and use when it is required.A good trait indeed.

I feel that the brand relaunching itself will surely create a curiosity.Vespa will hopefully come up with something new and exciting in the segment which they ruled once.

I agree with Mani....There is vast and different market segment for scooters in India. We can’t compare it with Bike segment. Some more new brands are also expecting in scooters. If Vespa is coming with new market strategy, nextgen technology and some new additions, definitely it can grasp market in good percentage. Vespa has an edge over other manufacturers.

Mridula, Its not about winning or loosing. Its about being successful in Indian market. LML vespa was good profitable brand. As far as my knowledge is concerned I was having the impression that Bajaj has lost market share to LML & LML lost market share to Kinetic. Indian market is very wide we can accommodate 6-7 two wheeler brand. We should welcome VESPA.

I don't think so because young generation never go with vespa brand and it never beat honda activa in scooter segment. but they have the chance to do something in gear bikes with color, speed, technology and design same like as their freedom bike

The only reason LML Vespa may not gain the market confidence is that young generation like to have bike rather than scooter.
