We all know that Volvo was into bus & other heavy machineries. It has now entered into the car segment in India. Volvo Auto India is working fast to bring in their new generation cross over, the XC60, into the Indian market. The car has already arrived in India and has been sent for homologation.

Volvo XC60

The Volvo XC60 is scheduled for a launch in the first half of 2010 and is touted to be one of the safest cars across all categories.  Volvo India is not just excited about the new model, for this new entrant also spells the beginning of a new game plan for the company in India.

Will XC60 be a success??

By all means Volvo is the epitomy of safety in automobile use. Most manufacturers build vehicles keeping luxury as prime focus. Volvo always focuses on safety first....

This is the reason many of their earlier vehicles lacked in taste and finesse. But the XC60 is a hands down winner!!!

Indian Auto Market is a different ball game altogether.Branding, pricing plays a crucial role in determining the success of brand.Volvo is yet to build the kind of brand equity to launch a passenger Vehicle or an SUV or a 4 wheel drive in India.Though Volvo has set several bechmarks in safety standards,we should not forget that out of the big 4 premium brands,Mercedes has already got a headstart as they started way back. Also Audi and BMW and Vw also set up thier plants and already heated up the Cometition in our Market.

Moreover,SUV or 4 wheel drive Market is yet to derive volumes rahter they are niche segments and this segment is laready crowded by BMW X5,X3 and Audi Q7,VW Tourage etc. i do not see much of dent in this new segment. The size of the cake has not yet increased nor Indian customer has understood the Off roading activities possible on diverse Indian Terrain. Our customers do not yet know use of 4 wheel drive.

Way to go Volvo XC -60!!!

The pricing will also be a key factor.

Volvos were known for their safety fetures until it was disproved in Kentucky by some consumers who tested it against some Monster trucks. I think volvos are going to be big sucess in India with their technology.

True Volvo does emphasise on the safety issue in all their vehicles, however do feel the emergence or the potential of the specific Indian consumer considering the sales of all the other luxurious cars & SUV's in the market and of course the runaway sucess of the Volvo buses on the Indian roads to add to it...

Cross-overs have been welcomed in the Indian market and other brands have been enjoying this market space. Volvo Auto India is keen on capitalizing on this segment and there is no doubting the fact that the XC60 has all the elements to make it a winner. Pricing still plays a big role and this is where Volvo will truly have to score in order to break into the market.

Lets be positive.

Sonalika manufactured tractors and 2 years back started with yet one more dision for 4wheelers - Rhino.

Every model, launch has to be a hit afterall lots of R7D work is involved. Take on to you if you prepare a presentation and your honest and sincere effort is turned down, how would you react.

Few models like Sumo, Indica and also Astar etc have been detected to carry some technical snag and the same has been sucessfully rectified. This model must have been manufactured taking Indian roads and climate conditions into consideration several times. Anything detected to be wrong can very well be rectified by such a big organization rather a giant in the automobile industry.

Why not?

indian market is all game for making a statement out of Versa, why shouldnt the Volvo make news here and sell itself. I think that Volvo has set standards like the Beemers and the VW's and even the Grand Vitara's. Cayenne is making its rounds in India along with the Hyundai Suv.

Volvo has proven ist standards on Indian roads and I am sure the XC60 will scorch our roads too!! Thanks for the referral Sachin :)

INITIALLY it will not get success. If the price of Volvo car is higher or same than same categories, so why should people go for volvo cars? as Volvo is known as heavy auto manufacturer. It will repeat the same story what happened with TATA initially.
